FSX quirks

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I’ve got FSX running smoothly but the final hurdle is the CTDs going on. It’s not caused by an OC as I ran my CPU back at stock and the same thing happened, but given how much I’ve been messing with it it’s no surprise – multiple .CFG updates etc.

Strangely, when I put the old CFG back in my FPS actually went up. By that I mean I had a greater FPS with the standard .CFG than the ******* tweak. At UK2000 Heathrow with traffic/AI off I got 30fps as opposed to 26 which is great by me.

Anyway, I’ve decided to format my rig and start fresh with a new unaltered CFG and amend all of my ingame settings via the sliders in REX, UTX, GEX, and FSX.

Is it completely unheard of to get better FPS with the original CFG than with the tweak?

Also is this how I should do it..

Install FSX, run flight, reset, install acceleration, run flight, reset, repeat for UTX, GEX, REX, NGX in that order then defrag with O&O.

This CFG stuff is really confusing – also, with the amended .CFG (I’ve tried both high and mid performance on the tweak) my game jitters more than with the standard….

Strange! Any thoughts/advice?

Thanks

might be a little overkill but a good approach - also follow this - FSX and how tune it

The "*******" tweaks are not a cure all - each system is different. A suggestion - backup your original cfg file - run the ******* tweak and get the fully modded cfg file and note the changes. Now replace the original and add and test each setting changed individually until you get a combo that works. Inh my system for example, would up removing all but one tweak for best results.

mainly be sure your system is balanced and setup according to NickN's guide linked above. Follow it to the letter - if you skip a step you negate the whole thing. Then apply the JT and go from there.

have fun!

Best piece of advice I ever read about `tuning' FSX... Don't chase numbers, chase smoothness. Soon as I stopped paying attention to FPS and focused on how the game is being presented to me visually I also soon after stopped playing with the CFG.
