For some reason and can never get FS2Crew to go into landing mode after the approach check list. I have to force it. What am I missing?

Are you closing the 'Approach Checklist' by saying "Set"?

 

You can also close it by saying "Altimeter 2875" (for example).

 

Note that the later response only works if you the Transition Level call has played first.

 

So if you're cruise alt was below the Transition Altitude, speak "Set" for the FO's challenge during the Approach Checklist.

 

That should then auto change the mode to Landing.
