Font problem at native resolution

Hi, I have a Dell 30 inch monitor, have had it approx 2.5 years, last year, I swapped various PC components around and tried a 3 monitor set up using 2 GTX 580's in SLI. I did not get on with it and so went back to suing the 30 inch and an additional monitor.

Since then, I have been unable to run the monitor at its native resolution of 2560 x 1600, as if I do, the fonts are messed up. This also happens if I plug it into my other PC. I have tried re installing windows, re setting the monitor to factory defaults, updating the drivers, using clear text, adjusting font size, changing video drivers, nothing works. The actual video is fine in game, but anything with text is messed up.

I am hoping someone might have an idea, I have googled and come up with nothing, it's shame having a £1000 monitor that you can only run at 1920 x 1200 !!

Regards, Mark

Mark,

Have you tried playing with the cleartype text settings in display?

Hi, yes, makes no difference unfortunately, rgds, Mark

Hi Mark,

From what you have said, changing monitors etc. I would suspect you are not using the correct cable, maybe they got mixed up.

To run that high resolution, you may need Dual Link DVI cables, not just the standard DVI. Yes, you can get the resolution, but text will be distorted.

similar issue here: http://superuser.com...tive-resolution

the link shows how to identify the various versions of DVI.

just a thought,

Hey Ronski, you know that sounds like it could be the issue...I am going straight home now to check..!! will report back,,,

Woooooooohhhhhh!!!!! YES !! that was it. I had the right cable all along as well, it was just in one of the other monitors..... thanks so much, I am a very happy man!! Cant believe it was there in front of me for so long..

Hi Mark,

glad it worked,

a lot of people do not realise the many differences between DVI connections. so it's easy to get cables mixed up.

Happy flying,

Ron.
