:-eek Now that is really cool!

Great topic for Hangar Chat, but what does this have to do with MSFS? I thought the link was going to take me to some type of interesting MSFS design :) I gave up RC long ago...got shot down too many times on ppl who didn't pay attention to the freq flags I was flying :( Of course, things have evolved since then, but I digress...-JohnEdit (and by the way, I WANT one of those)...

Downloaded one of the videos and saved it.... The aircraft was cruising about 8000 ft, and the pilots on the ground must have seen an aircraft fly overhead, because they panned the camera down and you get to see a GA aircraft passing their RC aircraft underneath. You also get a pretty good idea of how little the landscape moves for those brave ultralight pilots that get into such altitudes--seems like you are standing still. The site's worth a visit--thanks for the post--it brings back fond memories of my RC days 20 some odd years ago...

Somebody should shut these idiots down before they kill someone. I suppose pilots are supposed to see and avoid their toy as they fly blindly along? I will see if the FAA takes any interest.

>Somebody should shut these idiots down before they kill>someone. I suppose pilots are supposed to see and avoid their>toy as they fly blindly along? I will see if the FAA takes>any interest.Sigh.

Fred, correct me if you think I'm being unreasonable. I looked up your certificate and see you are a pilot.

I'm sorry to say I don't think you are being unreasonable. It's sad just the same--not a reflection against you--but rather the concept that these guys are doing something pretty creative and probably never considered the perspective of a pilot. I have to wonder though what pilots do about bird strikes. When I lived in the Bay Area, I saw some sea birds with wings spanning seven feet or more. Most of these RC aircraft are very light in weight. Regardless, a windshield hit or elevator hit and you could end up with many dead in a populated area with two aircraft tumbling to the ground. I hope these guys can be helped to find someplace safe to fly.... They may be idiots for not thinking of the obvious--but heck, even I missed it and got caught up in the interest of the story. There's something about seeing people apply themselves to something other than drugs, or crime, etc....that gives some hope...

I hear what you're saying. Bird strikes are a big concern for me, but at least that is mostly a low-altitude issue and I know to be extra vigilent when approaching or departing. Nobody expects to encounter a model airplane while cruising at 12,500 feet. These people are just relying on simple, pure, dumb luck to avoid a collision.

>Fred, correct me if you think I'm being unreasonable. I>looked up your certificate and see you are a pilot. No, its like John said about "It's sad just the same--not a reflection against you--but rather the concept that these guys are doing something pretty creative and probably never considered the perspective of a pilot".And no, I am not a pilot. I hope to start my PPL training soon :)

Hmm. You will be interested to hear that there is a Freddy Clausen who holds a special ATP certificate with a type rating for the B747.

I think the warning about danger to pilots is pretty sound--these guys are messing around in the flight levels now. You think the FAA would have approved the flights? http://www.noskylimit.50megs.com/index_files/page0018.htm-John

I agree. If I'm flying a commercial jet or business jet I'm going to hit this thing or it's going to hit me. Either way, it isn't a safe way for people to be playing with a hobby. I wouldn't like it one bit as a pilot.
