Giorgio...To imply that our hobby is in some way responsible for 9/11, because you are asked whether you've taken steps to be responsible for what you are doing, shows you are indeed a menace. Very common tactic of children or adults acting like children--shift the focus--try to create a smokescreen--rationalize.If you really believe the garbage that terrorists learned to fly using Microsoft's Flight Simulator, than you are not mature enough to be doing what you're doing. You could have answered our questions, but rather you choose to become defensive. What does that tell us about your credibility?Your last line is telling:"FAA can shoot me down, and maybe they will probably do it, but maybe you will be the next one."A--I consider that a threat which will likely bring more than one three letter entity knocking on your door. B--If you have the FAA's blessing, why make the comment?

"FAA can shoot me down, and maybe they will probably do it, but maybe you will be the next one."A--I consider that a threat which will likely bring more than one three letter entity knocking on your door. B--If you have the FAA's blessing, why make the comment?I cannot believe that you do not understand.I made the comments on Flight simulator with the voluntary intention to bother you so you can fell my disappointment. I never thought that Flight simulator is dangerous, but you are acting like a child and do not want to understand the comparison.FAA knows about my flights from day one. Under 18,000 feet they cannot give me any blessing because they do not have any regulations under that altitude. They can give me a permission over level 180 or refuse it . I

What a laugh--you are accusing me of being a child!!!! You are quite mistaken if you believe you can do whatever you wish to, just because you are flying below the flight levels. And you aren't talking about our hobby--you are attacking it because you were asked to show some responsibility for what you are doing. THAT is the only childish behavior I've seen in this discussion. Not once have I said that I don't admire your record attempt. I wish I could observe. But I wish you would at least approach it with something other than an "I have a right to do it" attitude, and at least see our side of things. I suspect you would get a willing team of aviation enthusiasts here.... Just don't call blaming our hobby for 9/11 "talk of it".... And no one will have to call anyone a child....

I can see that when somebody is using the same words that you used, you became upset . Tell me what I have to do. Do I need a permission from FAA to flight under 18,000 feet when they cannot give me one?I have to stop the record attempt and start playing with a simulator?I

CALM DOWN GUYS! I don't think you're getting Giorgio's point. He was being a little sarcastic, that's all - just to prove his point! Maybe it sounded a little harsh because english isn't his native language, but he didn't start it! He didn't call anyone idiot in the first place...I think he's acting very responsibly, taking all possible safety precautions. The danger of collision is probably 1:1000000 or something - it would be much more likely for a plane to collide with a large bird, which is actually UNWATCHED from below. Or with another VFR aircraft, where the pilot has a much more limited field of view than someone from below has. His statement about flight simming was just sarcastic, no more than that - he wasn't serious about it, he's just condemming other people's "political activism" as I would call it. I'm sure he has NOTHING agains flight simmers at all. -Daniel

*Sigh* I see people prefer bashing each other over reading a little between the lines. Oh well. -Daniel

>So we should all stop driving cars, riding bikes, walking,>sailing, jetskiing, riding trains... heck... why bother>living? That was my point EXACTLY. Add to that list 'flying RC model aircraft'. Any given GA flight has a trivially small chance of causing harm to others, but as tiny as the risk is is not absolutely zero. But even though the world could easily live without private aviation, we are prepared to accept that risk as insignificant in the greater scheme of things. The risk of an aircraft hitting this fellow's model are in the millions to 1, and the chances of it also doing life-threatening damage probably many thousands to 1 (based on the tens of thousand of bird strikes a year that do not result in injury, the few accidents that have been caused by bird strikes are usually the result of multiple engine ingestion failure from encounters with flocks). This adds up to billions to 1 chances of causing a loss of life. The risk is similar to hitting a sky-diver. As with sky-diving, if high altitude RC model flights are done far away from airways and approaches, and if they are accompanied by appropriate NOTAMs, then the risk is insignificant. As to 'planes falling out of the sky', it happens. Dont assume that every mechanical failure (engine or structural failure) will result in a controlled landing in an unpopulated area. I have lived beside airports and worked at them all my life and have seen a few light aircraft imbedded in people's houses, including one near my elementary school. Still, the risk of being harmed by such an event are as tiny as being harmed by a properly controlled RC model flight.

Tens of thousands of bird stikes a year!? Please excuse my skeptism, but can you back that figure up?And besides that, if you are so scared of your shadow(I can only assume you are by the way you are reacting to such risks such as lightning strike), you might want to consider staying away from computers, people, air, gravity....:-roll

>Tens of thousands of bird stikes a year!? Please excuse my>skeptism, but can you back that figure up?There are many sites that can provide those figures, here is one:http://www.birdstrike.org/commlink/top_ten.htmA quote from that site (it is worth reading the whole page):"Over 50,000 bird strikes to civil aircraft in the United States were reported to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) from 1990-2003, a mere 20% of the number that likely occurred.". That is just in the U.S., I was extrapolating for the whole world.>And besides that, if you are so scared of your shadow(I can>only assume you are by the way you are reacting to such risks>such as lightning strike), you might want to consider staying>away from computers, people, air, gravity....:-rollYou appear to have completely missed my point. I was trying to state that there are far too many people worrying about being harmed by ridiculously unlikely events, and that we needn't be bothered about RC model altitude record attempts. Private pilots should be especially sensitive about accusing others of putting life at risk, since many accuse private pilots of doing the same thing (unjustifiably).

Class B & uncontrolled....... hoping that loose helicopter parts don't fall on my head!

Is it just me or is the width of these replies getting thinner and thinner...:-hmmm
