Autothrottle going crazy

Featured Replies

I am approaching Vancouver today. I have been starting to notice this on the last 5 or so flights. As I am descending to VNAV profile intercept in the 1000 fpm regime past TOD and the aircraft gets to the profile and goes into retard it just stays in retard and instead of the throttles going all the way back to idle for the arm they stay at halfway and stuck in retard. Sometimes I can scare them into arm by hitting alt intervene and toggling the speed intervene. No such luck today. The throttles then would not go back anymore. I disconnected the at and ap and the throttles raced to full! I had no control with my joystick! I had to climb with the speedbrakes out to keep the speed in check while atc was screening at me. So the only way to land was to use the overspend protection system in the flaps and gear so I climbed got slow and started throwing everything out. I got it down to 155, vref was 117 and the os protection maintained just under flaps 30 limit speed. The only way to do this was with the AT armed. If I turned AT switch off throttles would go to full. So I came in at 150, landed 3 points, hit the brakes hard and then the manual throttles worked fine and so did reverse thrust. So it is not my joystick then. This is really starting to make me frustrated. What the heck is going on here? Is it a bug, a service based failure? Must be a bug with my particular NGX all of a sudden. I have sp3.

Even if I turn the AT switch off the joystick throttle has no control until I land of course. I can pull the throttles back with the mouse but then they race back to their desired position which is not my desired position.

Oh and this only happens at the VNAV profile intercept. From then on it's and emergency.

Thanks

Not sure but while in flight do you have your joystick throttle at 0 this works for me only see weird problems if I forgot to back the throttles down to 0

What is your A/T Manual Override setting set to? Sounds like your joystick has noise or is spiking, which would cause this...

Yes but I just started changing this procedure so that if I have to abort all I have to do is hit the ToGa button and reverse thrust. I used to leave it on wide open during the flight until disengage on final. So for the longest time throttle was full and now I use idle. But I have been doing that for the last month w/o issue.

My setting is no override unless in Arm. This setting has never changed since I started flying the NGX. Also I do not think it is interference due to the fact that as soon as I am landed it works perfectly all the way to the gate. The next flight there is no problem until I get to VNAV intercept and the system goes into Retard, hangs there and then is unresponsive. When AT is disengaged they go to full thrust, weird. Gives quite the exiting experience I must say.

I have a hunch it may be because I am using last flight panel states. I just started doing that because I like the way everything was the way I left it. I used to allways load Cold and Dark or Short but in the last couple weeks I start in the last state I left. This is a neat feature but I wonder if it is providing corruption with the joystick?

Thanks

I noticed FS2crew released 1.3 for the NGX. So I installed it and reinstalled sp3 and so far no problems on 2 flights. Although I reset the panel state beforehand. I'' have to try without at some point just to be sure. I can't help but think this may have been the issue but it could have been a panel cfg gone wild.
