I'm going to be building a new computer around the end of May, but don't know what to get. I've been looking around New Egg a lot, and have quite some options. Let's say I'm on a budget of about $700-$1000, and I want to get a whole computer, monitor, and all. So far I've come up with prices always leaning more towards the $1000 side. I'd like either an i5 2500K, or the Phenom II 965, and a compatible MOBO that's not ridiculously expensive. I've already decided on the GTX 550 Ti, unless someone else could recommend a better one of equal or lesser price.

Stay away from the AMD CPU's. The 2500k price for performance is much greater.

 

You will probably be right at $1000 but I am sure the community here can help you. I will do what I can when I get in front of a computer and not on the phone.

 

Too bad there isn't a micro center in Portland, they have a good deal on 2500k and motherboards.
