May 2, 200422 yr Commercial Member It's still 2004 and people are asking about 2006... We won't hear anything for at least another year man. If you're asking will they make it or not, most definitely, FS is still one of the best selling PC "games" of all time... May 3, 200422 yr Chris,Thank you for clarifying my last post. Not sure how I could live without this information being provided to me.Maybe Intel with have their 10.0 GHz pentium out so we won't have to worry about performance tweaks.TP
May 3, 200422 yr Author It's an interesting question however...Has anyone kept any accurate stats of the duration of intervals between FS versions? I have purchased every version of MSFS since SubLogic Flight Simulator Version 1 back around 1984-85 (I think) with the exception of FS2000 when I had a bit of a fling with the Sierra Pro Pilot and Fly series of sims.Personally there is not much more that I want out of my sim experience at the moment and at present have no hankering for a new version whatsoever. I guess what I have now is what I dreamed of having back around Version 2 and 3 when external views and basic scenery started to become available.I am approaching 180 hours in my "Around the world flight" (web page not updated for a while) and I am only 50% of my way around and like my last three ATW flights want to get back home to YPPH before the next version is released.Cheers and all the best...Chris Porter:-outtaPerthWestern AustraliaMy "Around the World 4" flight pagehttp://members.iinet.net.au/~portercbp/fly...e%20World_4.htmIntel Pentium IV 3.0GHz (800FSB) Socket 478 pins CPU w/Hyper-Thread Technology MSI 875P NEO FIS2R, AGP 8X, i875P ICH5R Chipset with Gigiabit LanKingmax 512MB PC3200 Double Data Rate (DDR) RAM CAS-2.5- 400MHz Rated x 2BUILT By ATI (Original) Radeon 9800PRO w/TV Out & DVI 128Meg DDRTEAC DV-W50E, 4x DVD-R/ 2x RW, 16xCD-R, 8xCD-RW, 16xDVD, 32x CD-ROM Internal Drive Only Western Digital Raptor 36.0GB HDD IDE, 8MB Cache, 5.2ms, 10,000rpm , S-ATA, w/DataLifeguard WD 40Gig HD for dataATX 470W Pentium IV Power Supply CESkyhawk Jupiter Aluminum CaseHyundai -ImageQuest P910 , 19" Multi-Scan Digital MonitorHercules Game Theater XP, 6.1 speakers Dolby Core i7 3820 | Asus P9X79-DELUX SLI M/b | 32GB Corsair DDR3 1600Mhz RAM | DeepCool Gemmaxx CoolernVidia GTX580 1536MB GDDR3 Video | ASUS MW221u 21" WS LCD2 x Kingston V300 240gb SSD RAID for OS and FSX | 2 x Seagate Barracuda 1Tb SATA HD's in RAID | 1 x 1Tb ext b/up driveAntec P193 Case | Corsair 1000W PSU | MS Win 7 Professional 64 BitMy website and aviation photo gallery - www.christopherbporter.com
May 6, 200422 yr MS released FS2000 in October 1999 and FS2002 in October 2001. FS2004 was released earlier in July 2003 so if the same trend continues we should see FS2006 in July 2005. This being the case expect to see the beginnings of FS2006 sometime in Jan/Feb next year with detailed info from April/May - in other words 12 months from now. Personally I can't wait to see what comes next!!!Regards, Andrew J Myers (EGNX)
May 6, 200422 yr I can honestly say I wish they would skip the next one. 2006 will probably bring updates, but the differences between 2002 and 2004 were quite minimal. I want to be blown away. The biggest feature I'd like to see (I know it's early) it the ability to talk to ATC with voice recognition. This is available now, and games like Sub Command, ATC Simulator, and even Unreal 2004 do an amazing job. It opens up such a huge area in terms of realism. For those who haven't used it ATC Simulator it is just incredible using voice recognition. Full phrases are understood- "Delta tree-seven Whiskey, turn right heading zero-niner-zero, descend and maintain 3 thousand, cleared ILS approach runway one-two right" is fully understood. How cool is that? With the way ATC works now, it's not possible to add this kind of interaction into 2004 because of the menu system even with a 3rd party add-on. If the FS team does not see voice recognition as a high priority, they may not add it to 2006, but I'm sure with an extra 2 years they will definately get it in there. Curved runway surfaces too, but I'm not turning this into a wish list...
May 6, 200422 yr Screenshots and press releases will probably come in around Feb/March. I can't wait either i'm terribly impatient. However, maybe things are about to change. As a huge fan of flight simulator since version 4, I think FS2004 has been a fantastic success. I'm ashamed to be one of thse people who shouted and screamed about it being just another "EXPANSION". However, general computer/games press that I have read (Not Avsim, Flightsim.com and PCPilot etc) in the UK at least, gave the impression that it was good, but... [this is a direct quote from CustomPC magazine in the UK]. "Theres no doubt it will sell bucket loads - it has a huge worldwide fan base. But Microsoft needs to take a long hard look at the title to ensure that FS2005(???) doesn't get stale. This one is already close to it's 'Best Before' date!" I believe, that Micro
