AI Traffic Unrealistic Taxi Beams FS9

Featured Replies

Is there any freeware to improve the really overlarge and overly bright unrealistic taxi light beams for AI planes at night?

And what is the file name that causes this? Is it the halo?

It is spot light. I have a great one, but it will affect your plane as well. It doesn't work with iFly nor Level-D(i have other spot.bmp for each). If you want it PM me.

Nic's suggestion is the way to go. Though it is time intensive, once you've done it you will be totally amazed at the improvement of AI taxi and landing light effects - especially in low visibility. To me this was one of the best enhancements of the sim in the past year or so.... You will need a freeware hex editor - I recommend Hex Editor Workshop. It's very easy to use.

the improvement of AI taxi and landing light effects

So let me get this straight, doing this will remove the visable taxi triangle from the vast selection of AI models i have? Isnt there a "halo" file all these planes are using to get that effect anyway? Cant that be deleted saving masses of time? (just asking out of interest)

There's no quick fix. This was a huge topic back in the heyday of FS9 and nobody was able to solve it until recently. Check the thread - some of the biggest names in the hobby tried all kinds of things to fix the problem. This method is a bit tedious but once it's done you will be delighted with the results. It's a pity we can't just post the modified files so it wouldn't be necessary for everyone to do the work invidually, but there were valid concerns about copyright etc.
