May 9, 200422 yr Hi guys, Here's a new one to me....I changed my anti-virus software yesterday along with a new firewall program...Well, now it seems that when I fire up FSMETEO, I get a popup telling me that FSMETEO is attempting to send my EBAY password information to an IP address....I never got this until today. And I get the YES/NO option.....Naturally, I don't want my info being sent, so I select no....and then FSMETEO locks up......anyone run into this before? Hate to think this program has been doing this all along....Thanks...Tony P
May 10, 200422 yr Seeing as how I use FSMeteo all the time and I don't have an EBay password or account and the fact that FSMeteo never locks on me, I'd say somehow you have some spyware.I would get AD-Aware or another Spyware program to hunt for the SpyBot.Joe w.
May 10, 200422 yr That's very strange! I've used FSMeteoe since the days of FS98, and it's never asked for my E-bay password. It's always worked very well for me.As the other responder says, check for some spyware, or maybe even a virus has slipped in. Don't know what's happening.Darrell
May 10, 200422 yr TonyI'd recommend getting both Spybot S&D and AddAware as sometimes one will find stuff the other missed. Make sure your antivirus is updated and run a full scan. If the problem persists remove FSMETEO completely, including it's direcrory and registry entries, (if add/remove progs doesn't do that), and reinstall. Hope this helps.David
May 10, 200422 yr Thanks guys, I've been fighting a Trojan horse virus that won't delete/quarantine using my AV program...Spybot doesn't find it..Looks like I might just uninstall/reinstall FSMeteo....see if that works...Thanks for the input fellas....Tony
May 11, 200422 yr At least it looks like your firewall/application protection is working and offering you the chance to block the transmission. Most AV programs are poor at finding trojan horses once thay make it into your system. In addition, unless you are doing a full scan, it may be triggered by a sub-process that FS Meteo is using rather than FS Meteo itself. You might consider scanning the install file before you actually install it to see if that might have been infected if the trojan was smart enough to do that.
May 12, 200422 yr "HijackThis" works great but it's very aggressive. Make sure to read and understand the documentation or you could do more harm than good.David
May 12, 200422 yr For myself, I use Grisoft AVG for virus protection and run both Ad-Aware and Spybot to keep my system free of unwanted nasties.Grisoft AVG has worked very well for me over the past three years yet on occasion, a trojan horse still manages to find it's way in.So far, the ones that AVG was unable to remove were 'embedded' and located in the C:Documents and Settings"user name"Local SettingsTemporary Internet FilesTo get rid of it, on the task bar of your internet browser, open the tab "Tools" and then "Internet Options." In there you should see a button under "Temporary Internet Files" titled "Remove Files." Clicking on that button will remove the temporary internet files and rid you of the trojan horse. I always run a virus scan immediately afterward just for peace of mind to make sure I got it and so far, it has always worked.I hope your fix will be as easy.Regards,Heather
May 12, 200422 yr The Temporary Internet Files can be deleted automatically when closing IE.The setting is under Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Security.
May 12, 200422 yr Author Hi Tony,I've recently added ZoneAlarm to my system, and at the start I was getting similar messages. With ZoneAlarm you can allocate sites as "safe" for allowing data transfer, and in general the "Ebay password" is highlighted because my actual password for these sites is the same as mu Ebay one.(I know I should have different passwords for every site I have an account at, such as Avsim Forums, Flight One Forums, flightim.com Forums etc. but life's too short .....)If you don't have an Ebay account it might be worth checking for spyware, but if you do, consider whether the password you've allocated has been used elsewhere.Once I've assigned such sites to the "safe list" in ZoneAlarm, I don't get further prompts of this sort.Cheers,Alastair
