May 12, 200422 yr Don't get me wrong, the painters have done a superb job on the great new A321 by iFDG, but the textures load really slowly causing pauses, especially when you go to spot view or wing views. I have a Dell XPS 3.2 macine with 1 gig of ram and an ATI 9800 Pro. I know there are some texture converter programs, but I'm not sure whether those programs work well or not.Does anyone have a thought on how to improve the texture loading so there are minimal pauses? I have a ton of other aircraft and most of them load fine although some have slight pauses depending on the painter.Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
May 12, 200422 yr Sure they do Use DXTpro to convert the textures to the DXT3 and save yourself a load of FPS'sCheers
May 12, 200422 yr I'd love to try that program. Do you know where I can find it?Lee Lee H i9 13900KF 64GB Ram 24GB RTX 4090
May 12, 200422 yr Well there's a few things you can do to improve the texture loading times. The best thing to do is to convert all the textures to DXT. To me, I don't really see a difference between 32-bit and DXT. I'm sure painters do, but I don't. But our fans want high quality, LARGE (for repainting) textures so we have to oblige, even if performance is compromised a bit.Another thing to try is defragment your hard disk so that FS doesn't have to spend so much time reading it to find all the bytes for the textures. The A321 is unfortunately a very LONG plane so in order to provide the same working space for painters as the A320, we had to go with a more resource intensive texture setup (2 x 1024 on the A321 vs 1 x 1024 on the A320) for the A321's fuselage.
May 12, 200422 yr Author Albaro, you and the team at IFDG have done a spendid job on the A320 series so far. My system leaves a lot to be desired, but I've noticed that the A321's frames are perhaps slightly better (only slighty, but better nonetheless) than those of the A320. Strange, it seems, but true. Maybe my computer has issues, but thank you guys so much for a great aircraft! I eagerly anticipate your A319! Cheers!George
