June 5, 201214 yr I just downloaded this after returning home from a 2 week assignment offshore. What an excellent package! I saw the screenshots and could see this was a masterpiece, but getting into the cockpit: - There's a "war map" laid out on a table behind the copilot seat. It's got a model plane on it showing your present location and heading. I've not seen this in any other simulator, it's a nice touch! - Engine sounds are terrific. - The engines are hard to get going (hold that starter on, and don't let go....) - Return the throttle to idle on the ground and they eventually splutter and die. - The manual, a work of art. Take time to read it. I haven't yet, but I can see there's a lot of detail described about engine management. - It's free get it here: http://shop.xplane-addons.com/19-boeing-b17-g-flying-fortress.html

June 16, 201213 yr Maybe you people knew it, but I didn't. The aircraft was exceptionally hard to land and I finally figured out I had to come in with about 3/4 power. This, of course caused a long roll. After reading the FAQs, I found that the aircraft is fully loaded with bombs. It becomes a lot easier to land if you go into the load settings before taking off and get rid of the ordinance or drop it while flying (as the directions say, be sure to open the bomb-bay doors or the rest of the flight will be remarkably short!). Hope this will help those that hadn't read this in the FAQs. It still requires a lot of power as you land, but is much more controllable. It is, by the way, a beautiful - and free - aircraft.
