fsx stopped working

Featured Replies

Sometimes, not always, after i close a successfull flight, with pmdg 737ngx and close fsx, I get the message that fsx stopped working and asks if i want to restart the programm.

Not a big problem but anoying, and i wonder why.

I have Windows 7 64bit os, fsx+accel.+REX2 od+ultimate traffic 2+ultimate terrain+GEX+ezcam 1.7. on a i7 2600k 4400mhz with gtx460 from msi, most high settings.

It works most time like a charme, but i have a question about the trusted software section in the fsx.cfg file.

Is it of importance, in witch sequence this section is organized, for example the pmdg.dll's first, then rex weatherengine, then ultimate traffic, then ezcam or does that make no difference at all.

I get the feeling as if windows 7 has troubles with closing fsx software applications or something like that.

Sorry for my poor dutch english.

greatings,

Were you flying in FTX/Orbx territory? That's a known problem with that software and I think they are still working on it. In the Event Viewer for Windows 7, you should see an 'event' for this and it should be the aiplayer.dll as the faulting module. If not, then we'll have to look elsewhere. I just know that if I change the FTX configuration back to default and fly in the same terroritory, the problem will not be there.

In regards to the trusted section in the fsx.cfg... there is no set organization. This section just shows trusted gauges and modules that you trusted. You can delete every entry under the Trusted section, save the FSX.cfg, and when you start up FSX again, you will be asked to trust gauges and modules and software again as you use it.

To get to the Event Viewer, click on the Start button and type Event in the search box. Then look up in the menu and click on Event Viewer. Once open, look under local events>Administrative. The Event Viewer shows everything that goes wrong and things that go right too as you use your computer system.

BTW, you write well.

Best regards,

Jim

Thanks for your reply,Jim

I haven't any FTX scenery, it's just that i recall the problems with the installation of the pmdg 737ngx ("first edition") especialy the pmdg trusted software dll's, fsx couldn't load.

It's as if fsx or windows 7 still has troubles in starting and closing these applications.

The event log is different, one time it's the g3d.dll, then the rex weatherengine, then ultimate traffic or fsx.exe

BTW, i still feel sometimes with the pmdg 737ngx that i have to walk on eggs. (dutch expression)

Do you have all the SP's for the PMDG 737 installed (up to SP1c)? You can try going into the FSX.cfg and deleting the trusted entries for PMDG and then let FSX rediscover them as trusted modules or you can completely uninstall the PMDG 737 and reinstall it. The PMDG 737 does take many resources to start up and perhaps your FSX settings are set too high taking away resources needed to run the PMDG 737. There is a fix for the g3d.dll error for most applications and that's installing the latest version of FSUIPC.dll. But I have personally found that the g3d.dll error only applies to FTX scenery locations. I have not seen the error in other locations of the world. Heavy weather settings via the REX weatherengine will take up a lot of resources too. I know that when I fly my PMDG 737NGX in heavy nasty weather, my FPS drop dramatically and sometimes FSX will simply shut down.

Top marks to you, Jim,as once more like George on his steed, you come to the rescue of a CTD'r, like you did for me.

Very commendable.

Thanks Rick. Always appreciate the compliments. Wish I had a magic wand to fix everyone's system that crashes but it's a complicated world out there. Hope you continue to have a working system.

Hello again Jim,

I have all sp including sp1c installed, 2x a clean install of fsx +all addons, i deleted the fsx.cfg file a few times so everything including the trusted software was installed from scratch again.

And everything installes fine, but still it is not all stabil yet.

I noticed one other thing, if i close fsx after ending a flight i have to click the "red cross" twice, the first time nothing happens.

It's all not dramatic, flying the pmdg through the clouds ( REX is beautiful ) is fantastic, flying the 737 through strong crosswinds is challenging but great fun.

I think that a next servicepack will smoothen things a little bit more.

Until then i keep on flying, greeting everybody on the ground .

Happy flying,

Ton

Hope you continue to have a working system.

You fully deserve it, Jim. System where I was on the verge of throwing in the towel is now rock steady, regular 30FPS and durability over long haul MD-11 flights as well as short-haul 738NGX flights, thanks to you and Word Not Allowed
