It's been released, anyone got it? How does it compare to the A2A P-51?

Ian R Tyldesley

I bought the A2a P51D a few days ago. From my real world taildragger experience and assuming the A2A P51D sets a new standard I now consider the DCS mustang to be a long way from finished.

The A2A spitfire was already a joy to fly but not easy, the P51D is even easier, a little more stable and fine to land without bouncing.

Compared to the DCS P51 (sim mode): this one ground loops way too easy as if the wheels have no friction on the runway and the aircraft no mass. During take-off the ground looping is wrong as with tail up the centre of gravity shifts forward and engine torque only should take over. The aircraft should never turn 90 degrees side ways with the pull of the engine in front and the prop wash along the tail and rudder. In the air the constant moving of the nose in all directions with good trim without stick input seems strange. Reducing all these effects by 80% would be much more realistic in my opinion. Landing is comparable to the A2A P51.

The DCS can be flown but I find the FSX A2A mustang much more enjoyable.

The sim is great. Still a Beta, so lots of things missing, but to me it is already enjoyable, and finally we can have a proper WWII airplane outside the boundaries of FSX. ED is showing support and listening to the community, so the future of this product is looking quite bright.

About DCS: P-51D Mustang

The Mustang was among the best and most well-known fighters used by the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. Possessing excellent range and maneuverability, the P-51 operated primarily as a long-range escort fighter and also as a ground attack fighter-bomber with bombs, rockets, and machine guns.

The DCS: P-51D Mustang offers both highly-detailed simulation and easy-to-play "game" mode options for both hardcore and casual gamers. When in simulation mode, this is the most authentic simulation of the P-51D Mustang that has ever been done for the PC.

A powerful yet easy-to-use mission editor allows you to create your own missions and campaigns. A one-click Mission Generator also allows you to instantly create battles as small or large as you wish.

Fly online with built-in server browser that supports up to 32 players in both head-to-head and cooperative gameplay. Fly online with other DCS aircraft like the Black Shark and the A-10C Warthog.

Features of the DCS: P-51D Mustang:

• Highly detailed six-degrees-of-freedom cockpit. Interact with cockpit controls with your mouse.

• Interactive training system.

Wags little update

Visually (screen shots), there is not much, if any, to really update. Mostly work continues on the items listed here:

http://forums.eagle....ead.php?t=87556

But I can say that I am quite happy now with the cockpit shake, AI Mustang dogfighting is much improved, and heat / oil management is getting a lot of attention.

Thanks
