June 12, 201213 yr In the tutorial flight from Gatwick to Schiepol, shortly before the Top Of Descent, the first four lines in the LEGS page reads: SULUT (In Red) 267/16661 SUGUL 250/FL250B (In red) EH606 240/7748 NIRSI 220/5,500A 1. Why are two entries in red? 2. Should I change the SUGUL altitude to a more practical level such as 250/9000 ? Cliff Cliff Harris
June 12, 201213 yr 1. Next speed and altitude restriction. 2. No. FL250B means that you have to cross this waypoint at FL250 or below. FMC is very smart, as seen on its altitude calculation on SULUT you will cross SUGUL much lower than FL250. But according to chart you will be crossing it at 10000'. And don't forget to set correct transition flight level on FMC des forecast page. Rostyslav S Wanna fly 737NGX with turbulence?
June 12, 201213 yr I'm not a real life pilot, but I have flown the Heathrow-Schipol route a few times. The Sugol fix is the IAF for the final approach, and according to the official STAR chart, you can expect to be between FL100 and FL70. In my experience, I usually entered 250/10000ft, but 9000ft should suffice as it is within bounds of the chart instructions. FL250 is way too high that close to the airport (about 31nm to be precise), and the fact that it says FL250B is just a reminder to the FMC to make sure the VNAV path calculates a crossing altitude below FL250 at SUGOL, not to be at FL250.
