Changing external sound volume

Featured Replies

Well, it will likely be dependent upon the aircraft you're talking about, so my answer may not apply to your situation, but generally all sound files aree kept in the individual aircraft's "Sound" folder - as .wav files, along with a sound.cfg configuration foile. The external sounds are sometimes named describing exactly what they repepresent... but sometimes not - depends upon the author. One or more of the parameters listed under each **le will be for the volume, so it can be changed. I would suggest copying and pasting the sound folder so you have a backup of the original, then play to your ear's content! You could also download "Audacity" and lower the volume of that .wav file when you find the offending one.

Be aware, too, that some aircraft have their sound files built into the aircraft, so these methods may not work.

Also - perhaps someone more familiar with the sound problem will chime in.

If you are referring to the volume level change when in the external view, it's supposed to be louder since the external view is simulating what the aircraft would sound like if you were flying along side it.

If you mean, it is physically louder than you would like... You can do the things described above, but a more simple approach would be to go into the sound config menus, lower the ENGINE sound, but leave the cockpit sound at normal. This will lower the external engine sound, but it will then be unrealistically low and won't be as authentic as it was before...

This has been a problem for some time. My case its just the opposite from the OP. I fly the LDS 767 and for sound I use the TSS HD 767 sound package. The overall sound is just great. However real 767 pilots have said that from the cockpit you can barely here the engines. When I lower the sound in FSX it also lowers the sound in the external view which I would love to be louder like the real airplane. The TSS package has cones so you get different sounds from various angles in external view.

i would really like to know how to have low engine sounds in the cockpit and very loud sounds in external view.
