Using MyTraffic X with SMS Generator?

Featured Replies

I'm pulling my hair out over an issue... I'm trying to get the bojote SMS generator to work with MYTrafficX on vatsim (essentially have the nice new modelset display instead of the VIP models using SB4).

I've been through some emails with ******* and sort of getting some help at the vatsim forums but I wonder if anyone here has used the generator with the MTX?

I'm really stuck because according to some users on the vatsim forums running this SMS generator should produce a third option within SB4 multiplayer options... and I've got only two... the vip model sets and sb3 model sets...

I moved the new .sms file into the SB4/aircraft folder, and in my fsx.cfg under MAIN I've got a new path for simojbects which points to this MTX AI folder...

I'm completely stumped and would love to have help if anyone's successfully used the sms generator with MTX.... I'm using the original generator that's posted in this thread over @ vatsim forums:

Hi Ryan, I have done this but I used UT2. I went the route of making a duplicate copy of my UT2 aircraft. I named the dup UT2 aircraft foder SB4_Aircraft and it is inside of the SimObjects folder. (Same folder as the UT2 aircraft) When you run the script it MUST be run from within the new folder (in my case SB4_Aircraft).Did you make a dup and then run the script inside that or did you run the script from your orig MTX AI folder?

From the original MTX aircraft folder... But in the readme it said you could do it this way as long as you made an entry in the fsx.cfg and point it to the new path... so my entry is:

SimObjectPaths.6=MyTraffic\Aircraft

I wonder if it's freaking out because it's not in the simobjects folder...

In fact the readme warned me NOT to put the new folder in simobjects... sigh lol

... but if you dont have it in the SimObjects folder then adding: SimObjectPaths.6=MyTraffic\Aircraft will do nothing....

Where does your MTX AI folder live? I use UT2 and it is in my SimObjects folder. I went the route of making a dupe of that folder and then renamed it to SB4_aircraft. When I ran the script I named the sms file UT2.sms . That sms file was moved then to the SB4 Aircraft folder which is in the SB4 main folder.

The instructions said not to run it from FSX/SimObjects/Airplanes folder. The AI lives in the SimObjects folder.

I guess I must be reading it wrong then... the path in the main section could be anywhere and it should direct FSX to use whichever folder is added via the path...

MY AI is not in the simobjects but the FSX root folder...

Even if I do that... I still don't have the MTX traffic group available to view in SB4... which I think is the main issue... I'll try to drag all the files over I guess...

edit: damnit you're right... there's a little caveat about having the folder in the simojbects folder.. ARGH! The readme must assume that for starters, the AI traffic folder is in my simobjects folder... and mine is not.

Thanks!

p.s. Just to be clear... let's say I copy the entire MTX folder and put it into my simobjects folder... do I extract all the SMS Generator files into this new duplicate folder? And then run the Gen from there? Or can I just copy all the MTX AI into the simojbects folder after I've ran the script and place the entry in my fsx.cfg?

You can try the second option you mentioned first and see if that works. If it does that would be the quickest but Im not sure. If that doesnt work go with your option one you mentioned. MTX AI by default dont go into the SimObjects folder? UT2 AI install there but maybe MTX works differently as it is BGL based and UT2 is not. Post back how you make out with this, I am curious now.

I copied the original install folder MTX/aircraft (be advised I only copied the AI aircraft, not every single folder that MTX installed) into a new folder within simobjects (So the new path is SimObjects/MTX). I then extracted all the sms generator files into the new folder. I ran the generator... changed a few ICAO types to correct, no errors in the process. It said it completed the progam. I moved my new .sms file into the SB4/aircraft folder with the other two default files. I started FSX so it would add the new scenery indeces. I started SB4. Under multiplayer options the new file IS STILL NOT THERE! ARGH!

What the deuce controls the ability to add the new entry into SB4 Multiplayer options? Does the script produce that or is it simply moving the new .sms file into the SB4 folder that adds it to the list when I'm in SB4 program?

When you are giving the .sms file a name you are only using 3 characters, correct? Check a few CFG files for a few of your AI aircraft and see it it is adding the entry to the CFG files.

When running this script you will be prompted to enter a unique

3 letter identifier that will be appended to the title= portion of ALL the [Fltsim.x] sections of your AI aircraft.cfg/sim.cfg

files found in the directory this script is run

If you want I could send you my SMS file I made and you can see if that one shows up in SB4. Just let me know.

Also... are you seeing the VIP.SMS file and the SBX.SMS file?

Yes I've done all that... Yes i see the default VIP and SB3 modelsets... (both in the program when it runs and in windows explorer)

Sure, might as well send me your file... check your PM...

Thanks!

p.s. logic would tell us I'm doing something wrong or something is wrong with my SB4 installation... Not many others are having this problem hehe... It's probably something simple.

Ok... in the way! One more thing... open your .sms file in notepad. At the top of the file you should see your 3 letter name you gave it. Does it match to your file name but minus the .sms?

Dang man... all I can suggest would be to re-install SB4? I dont know what else to try at this point.

Registry.... that was the key! (pun haha)

SUCCESS!

Here's what happened in case you're wondering...

A while back I installed another SB4 installation, and changed the .exe files names - in order to beta test Pilot Edge network... the PE beta installation was newer so of course the reg files were overwritten. Windows must have thought the PE installation was SB4 for FSX when it wasn't... Which is why adding or deleting the .sms files made no difference.

Anyway I already tried uninstalling SB4 a few days ago, and when reinstalling didn't work I basically gave up... ******* sent me an email reminding me to check the registry! So I checked and sure enough there was a whole slew of entries. Deleted those... after SB4 uninstall, rebooted pc, reinstalled SB4, and voila! Traffic is working! Woohoo!

Now I've got a small niggle... it seems a few of the aircraft types aren't recognized by SB4... the new ones like B478 or B77L or B788.... and I'm getting errors when I load the modelset in SB4... which I can click through but is there a way to make SB4 recognize these new types?

... not sure about that one Ryan... if you no... will it come back again later or is it a one time error warning? You heard from *******? Havent seen him around for a long time.
