June 19, 201213 yr Hi Guys, Wondering if you can help me. What sort performance improvement would I see going from a core i5 760 @ 3.6ghz with 4gb of ram and a gtx 560ti, to an i5 2500k @ 4ghz with 8gb of ram? This is with; Fsx, ngx, utx, gex, rex, mtx. Thanks
June 19, 201213 yr Not much, is my initial reaction. I'm assuming you are on Win7 with 64bit with your old system.
June 19, 201213 yr Hey there, Sorry I'd under exagerrated! Current system is.. Core i5 760 @ 3.4ghz 4gb DDR 3 ram gtx 560ti 1gb 7200rpm (ageing and slow!) hdd. Plan is to upgrade to..: i5 Sandbridge 2500k (I plan to OC it so I guess about 4.2ghz is reasonable) 120gb SSD 8gb DDR 3 ram Keeping my GTX 560ti Would this not give quite a big increase? Hoped it would but if not maybe I won't bother! Thanks :) Oh sorry, yes I'm on Windows 7 64 bit all up to date.
June 19, 201213 yr If you plan on overclocking... a 2500k can do 4.6GHz 24/7 easily. A better cooler might be a wise decision though. Name available upon request
June 19, 201213 yr Hi, I've got a Corsair H60 I'll put on so OCing will be done as far as the chip will go :) I just need confirmation it'll be a worthy boost in FPS compared to my current rig, prior to paying! Cheers
June 19, 201213 yr Thank you guys. Is there a big increase in FPS between 4gb and 8gb of ram in fsx? I may just go for the mobo/cpu combo..
June 19, 201213 yr I don't think the gain will be that much, 25-35% max. The ram and SSD will reduce load times but I doubt it'll increase your frames. My last upgrade was from a C2D E8400 @ 4.0 to a 2500K at 4.8 and that was maybe a 40-50% boost at best. Hard to say though. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
June 19, 201213 yr Thank you guys. Is there a big increase in FPS between 4gb and 8gb of ram in fsx? I may just go for the mobo/cpu combo.. You can always upgrade to 8GB later. But truth is you can get 4GB for so cheap these days that it won't hurt to do it. You won't see a performance increase, at least not an FPS increase in every situation, but 8GB is standard today, and in heavy scenery / complex addons it may help I don't think the gain will be that much, 25-35% max. Hard to say though. From an I5 750 @ 3.4GHz to an I5 2500K @ 4.6GHz.... It's a 35% increase in clock speed and a 10-15% more IPC, so that's where the 50% comes from. I'm not making up the figures. Besides I did that same upgrade (from a 4GHz I5 750 to this 4.8GHz 2600K) and I meassured a consistent 35% FPS boost as expected. I'm surprised you didn't see a much bigger improvement coming from a C2D Dave.
June 20, 201213 yr I totally hear you Dario, the consistent 35% FPS boost that you got is what I'd expect he will see. We've seen time and time again though that a 50+% jump in CPU performance won't necessarily equate to a 50% jump in FSX. i7-13700KF, 32gb DDR4 3200, RTX 4080, Win 11, MSFS 2024
