May 19, 200422 yr Hello,Now I really feel stupid. I use FSNAV along with the charts I purchase from sporty
May 19, 200422 yr Not sure there's a question in there, mark ;)!Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I'll do my best to clarify these terms for you:DME = Distance measuring equipment - provides distance to the runway.ILS = Instrument Landing System - I'm pretty sure FSNav uses this to mean a localizer which provides lateral (eg heading) information to align the aircraft with the runway.GS = Glide Slope - provides vertical guidance for the descent to a minimum altitude from which you should be able to see the runway.Real world sectional charts don't necessarily display all of this information since you should be referring to official approach procedures (downloadable at http://www.naco.faa.gov/digital_tpp.asp?ve...4&end=6-10-2004 for the United States) for instrument approaches - thus the chart indicates that an instrument landing is there. Also, not all instrument approaches are created equal - some have all of the above is available to the pilot (distance via DME, altitude and descent info via GS, and heading via Localizer), others may only have the localizer.Hope that helps some,sg [email protected] | 32gb RAM | EVGA GTX1080 8gb | Mostly P3Dv5 (also IL2:BoX, DCS, XP11)
May 19, 200422 yr Author >ILS/DME 9 (say for telluride KTEX).Mark,There is no ILS at Telluride (KTEX) that's for sure. There is an LDA -localizer only - yet another type of approach.Michael J.http://www.reality-xp.com/community/nr/rsc/rxp-higher.jpg Michael J.
