June 21, 201213 yr Hello all! I'm wanting to have a go in one of these full-size cockpit flight simulators of airliners that you see. I'm having a little trouble in my research, though. The trouble is that, if you want a full-motion one, they seem to be eye-wateringly expensive (in the region of £660 per hour, according to Virtual Aviation in Heathrow and Gatwick and so forth). However, I wonder if a fixed-base one (the likes of which iPilot in Westfield Shopping Centre runs for £160 per hour) will be very realistic, or will it not seem altogether different from flying my desk, cockpit instrumentation aside? So, my question is this - have any of you flown full-size flight sims around London, and which do you think is best? Is full-motion worth the extra money, or is fixed-base also great fun? Thanks!
June 21, 201213 yr They used to have one in Bluewater shopping centre but it's no longer there. I'd be interested on knowing if there are any others around...
June 21, 201213 yr Why don't you book up for the Concorde sim at Brooklands. http://www.brooklandsmuseum.com/index.php?/your-visit/concorde-simulator/ vololiberista Super VC10 into LOWI with PF3 at a cinema near you https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=298UDyNmgUA

June 23, 201213 yr Hi! 660 pounds an hour sounds ridiculously expensive but I imagine being in an airliner full motion sim would be very very cool. I think it is one of those things you can get for free if you know someone. I once worked for a week at one of the most expensive recording studios in Europe where they record orchestras for film scores and got to use it free for a day just by asking if there was a trainee engineer who would like to record me on a day off for experience. From your pic you look like a student maybe, maybe you could ask for a few weeks work experience at a centre or something to get a foot in the door. Many thanks, Pierre
