Scenery error message

Featured Replies

I just goofed a bit of my FSX Installation, by trying to install a scenery file I found of St. Barths (TFFJ)

The sim still still works and loads, the issue is a message:

Scenery.CFG file error

invalid Remote,scenry path in

Scenery Area .120,

Click OK to continue...

I have had this happen to me before, Unprofessionally and unknowingly I have fixed the issue by Restoring Computer to a previous date...It’s not giving me that choice any more, but a restore time that is only 15 minutes before the misshap. That is completely useless as I have been trying to fix this now for more that a few hours.

I deleted the scenery as It didn’t show anything of what was supposed to be includd in the images and text that came with the file???For obvious reasons when I deleted it I must have done something very wrong and the error message appears, everytime I start FSX...

Can anyone advice? Please

You'll need to open up your scenery.cfg and manually remove the Area/Layer 120. It's in a hidden folder located in C:\Program Data\Microsoft\FSX. Open the file with notepad, remove the scenery area, save, and go fly.

I noticed during installation of that scenery for St.Barths that the default.exe path was Programs\ Program Files FSX... Since I have Windows 7 I have my install under my C:\ In a folder I created, I doubted this and decided to requide/ Change the path of... the installer directly to my installation under my C:\ Not Program files, Maybe that is why it didn’t install at all and all went wrong for me

I’m wonderring if I should fallow the default path?

What do you think?

Bernardo

Using the default installation path is not recommended due to the Win7's paranoic control over "Program files". So if you choose to use the default path you may end with more problems than your have already.

No need to follow the default path. Most installation programs look in your system registry to find the location of FSX and install the program appropriately. If you don't think it installed correctly, you can start up FSX and go into the Scenery Library and check the installation there. If it's not in the Scenery Library then it was not installed properly but you can still manually locate the scenery and add it to your Library. In your case it does sound like the scenery did not install correctly and didn't have the path to the scenery folder within St Barth. There's a special procedure for manually installing scenery in the Scenery Library for Windows 7 users. It's pinned at the top of the Windows 7 forum. I would try the install again and, if it's not in the Scenery Library or you are getting the error again, go to the Scenery Library and delete the scenery. Then select Add and browse to the location of the scenery and see if you can manually install it in your Library.

Hi and thanks for your replies; I found the scenery here:http://marcoh.gratisim.fr/stbarth.html I tried to download again, because I deleted everything concerning it and emptied my Recycling Bin; Both time I down loaded, only the .exe came...No Read-Me ? Where I remember a lot of editing was required to get the scenery to show right, For example Layers had to be changed, for the runways' dip to show right and other details...

I have my UAC almost turned off.

I did use the procedure of installing sceneyr in win7 by clicking on a white space after choosiing it,before clicking ok...But nothing happened. After I found that St. Barths is in Guadalupe :Just Kidding: I went there several times only to find that the scenery had not been added.

With out that read-me I just don't dare anymore...

Here is an image of the default path the installer uses; I guided it to my installation under my C:\ And everything went wrong last night; During installation it shows the read-me...But in French ?

I have also unzipped the file to a temp to see it's contents and eventually attept to install from there; But there are several folders?
