I just find with GFWL, it's a lengthy process to log in. Other clients log in much quicker. The other thing is, if not careful, or I fidget the wrong way, my login info gets deleted from the GFWL client all by itself and needs to be re-entered. A bit inconvenient.

I purchased my points through Amazon. Quick, easy, and no problem redeeming through Flight. Also, there is a bit of a discount through Amazon.
