June 24, 201213 yr Could someone tell me the difference between Online Dynamic data and Offline Static data in Historical tab of ActiveSky Evolution? Reading the manual I coldn't get it. Many thanks, a concrete example would be very appreciated! June 25, 201213 yr Could someone tell me the difference between Online Dynamic data and Offline Static data The names are actually self explanatory. Historical Dynamic allows you to select a date and hour of your choice at which point your wx in FSX will evolve and change as it had in the RW. If you select Offline static you can D/L an hour (or series of hours) to use. The hour(s) will then replay as long as you use them for your flight(s). Think of this: If you begin a flight (as I usually do) but save it at some point during the flight so you can leave the computer (work, food and/or sleep do intrude occasionally), you can reload your flight after first loading the online dynamic wx in AS at the point in time (FSX, not necessarily RW at which you saved the flight) and have your wx match the time at which you left the sim. Either online historical dynamic or offline static also allow to select specific wx conditions, whether challenging or easy. June 25, 201213 yr Author Thanks Dan, if I well understand.... Online dynamic data: suppose I download 2012 january, Real FSX/ASE 12pm snow snow 1pm sun sun 2pm rain Rain And so on... So I got in FSX the specific weather of that day at 12, then at 1pm, 2pm and so on like was in the real weather of that day? The online update is related to that specific day I suppose, I mean 1st january, not today weather, correct? Offline: you will download 1 or more hrs and weather never change? June 25, 201213 yr Not 100% correct I think. Let's look at it this way: Say you want to do a flight--yesterday. Actually you can date the flight as today but let's say there was some "interesting" wx at your home field at the time you wanted to take off. You would open ASE (or AS2012), click on the Historic button over on the left. Then: In the date window click to open and click on the date you desire--you can also scroll back several months/years if desired Click on the hour and then the minutes you desire Click apply Click (checkbox) sim time in the upper right Click on the Flightplan button and navigate to your flight plan in the FSX Documents folder (Green "Enter Plan" button) and then the blue import button Click on desired plan and click open Enter alternate airport if you have selected one Click Process Note, you do not need to enter a flight plan in AS. If no plan is selected, the program will find your location once your flight is started but will not be able to supply wx data for either a route or destination. You will, obviously, be able to find your ending destination on the Map page of AS, but this might take more than a little doing. You can now click on the Start FSX button (blue button, lower left) and FSX will start or you can simply start FSX normally. Load your flight in FSX and set the sim time to that which you set in AS and you're good to go. The time in AS will advance as your flight time advances. Weather changes will occur as in they did on that day. If you pause the flight, the time in AS wiil pause also. You can pause, save, and exit your flight at any time you wish. Simply record the sim time and date at which you exited FSX-FS-9. When you are ready to reopen your flight simply open AS, and repeat the above steps but this time use the newly recorded date and time so that your flght WX picks up where you left off. You will need to reenter the flgiht plan each time you do this save step. I have to tell you that I cannot give you any real guidance on D/L'ing and saving a specific hour or hours of WX data to your hard drive, I've never bothered with it. But yes, if you save a specific hour(s) that time period you saved will simply replay. if you save more than one date, you will need to specifly which date and time you are using when you start AS to use that saved hour or hours. Again, when you are using on-line dymanic wx you are not saving the wx files, only streaming them. Think of it like watching a video on YouTube. Unless you specifically D'L a video (or historic wx hour(s)) you are not saving anything, only streaming it. This whole thing takes a whole lot less time to do than to read about, don't be dismayed by the length of my post. The manual is your friend when getting through the learning process. June 25, 201213 yr Author Many and many thanks Dan, it's very kind of you! Ric Riccardo OS: Windows 10-64 bit, CPU: i7-7700K @4.20 GHz, GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1080 G1 8GB GDDR5, RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR4 32GB 3000MHz, MB: MSI Z270
June 25, 201213 yr I have been having a slight issue with my understanding of this as well. I understand the historical part but the offline weather isn't behaving like I thought it would. I have used As for years but I have always used online mode. When starting ASE, I want it to download the current weather but I don't want it to change after the initial download. This way, I can see what the weather is like at my destination without it changing once I am in the air. It seems like when I turn off automatic updates, it always reverts back to the last historical time time I used.
