Air Display messed up my FSX

Hi there,

 

I just purchased and installed Air Display, only to find out that it messed up my FSX. I can't open pop-up displays anymore (the 2-D pop ups that call up the FMC or radio in Level-D or PMDG NGX etc.!

 

I followed the installation instructions and was somewhat able to drag the Level_D and PMDG FMC's to the Ipad2 but occationaly. Strangely enough, after shutting down air display and restarting the sim, everytime I clicked on a gauge that previously used to open just fine (eg. PMDG's FMC) and pop-up in 2-D view, that doesn't happen anymore.

 

I'm at a loss, have already tried uninstalling air display, yet my 2-D pop ups are gone and therefore made it impossible for me to undock a window period......I don't quite know how to explain but it all started after installing air display, when I tried to undock a window it simply wouldn't, all I could see was somewhat of a flash, opening a window but it was too quick to really see what was happening. I could barely see that the 2-D would pop up for 1 tenth of a second and it was gone. Then if (I was lucky enough) to right-click to open the context menu to pick from "undock" the window may or may not randomly appear on my Ipad.

 

I'm so upset right now as even with air display uninstalled I can't open a single pop-up window anyomore that I don't know what to do.

 

Any kind users have a solution for me? I don't even care about the $10 bucks I spend, I just want to get my 2-D pop ups again.

Perhaps the popups are appearing, but they are appearing within the confines of your virtual airdisplay monitor.

 

Try makeing sure that air display is not running on your PC. Open up your display settings and look to see if the virtual second monitor is still there.

 

Take a look in your fsx.cfg file and see if there is a monitor listing for Air Display. If there is, BACKUP YOUR FSX.CFG FILE then remove that entry and restart.

 

My guess is that the popups are appearing within the confines of that monitor because either your computer, fsx or both think it's still there.

If you look at the Windows compatibility section of the Air Display Apps store info, it says :

"..DirectX will be disabled while connected".

Maybe this had something to do with you problem?

It's nothing to do with Direct X being disabled, it's as Noah has already suggested, the popup's are appearing it is just that they are off the edge of the screen where the Air Display monitor screen was the last time you ran it.

 

Make sure you put the Air Display monitor in the same place the next time you run it. Windows allows you to move the monitors around in relation to one another, perhaps you moved them around in between FSX sessions. FSX will leave the gauge at the exact same screen coordinates as the last time it was run, or more accurately, where they were located when the flight situation was saved.

Thanks so much for your help and suggestions. What you're describing is, I believe, exactly my problem. I'll try your suggestions tonight and will report back.

 

I know I changed monitor positions at least once while FSX was running and even once was successful in dragging the FMC to the kneeboard. Is it true that one small portion of the undocked window has to remain on the main screen for it to appear on the iPad? Also, is it possible to automatically resize the undocked FMC so it fits the full iPad screen?

It was true but its been a while since I used Air Display, I have a proper touch screen monitor instead now, the iPad was just too small to be useful for me.

 

I use LINDA to program my joysticks and MCP hardware and LINDA has a facility built into it to automatically resize and position a window once it is undocked. Maybe it will work with Air Display too, although with LINDA I have never tried saving a window that straddles two displays. That last sentence just sounded wrong, :LMAO:

first of all thanks again for helping me out. I was finally able to drag the FMC over to my ipad, however if I elect to fly without air display I now can't use the pop up's from my favorite plane PMDG NGX anymore.

 

It's exactly as you described, but I can't understand when disabling, even uninstalling air display the problem of not being able to use pop up's remains. I checked my fsx.cfg and couldn't find a reference to air display in there, hence I couldn't delete it.

 

At this point I really just want to restore everything to what it was before. If I can figure out to do that I may find more time to tweak this on the weekend.

 

Any other help would be greatly appreciated. Below please see my fsx.cfg, maybe there's something else out of order.

It only shows my Hannspree 27 inch monitor (I tried "detect" under control panel's display settings, but no other display was found), no other devices detected. I'm currently running nvidia 301.42 whql driver.

I'm afraid that pretty much runs me dry of ideas. FSX saves the location of windows in the save flights. Could that information help you? If you are always loading a save flight, could you try starting a fresh flight, or vice-versa?

Thanks again Noah. I had the same hunch and while I'm not 100% sure, rebuilding fsx.cfg and deleting default flight did the trick!!! Yea me :Kiss:

All you needed to do was delete the line;

 

SITUATION=c:\users\peter\documents\flight simulator x files\default kcle.FLT

 

Then restart the sim and save that flight again with the windows in the correct places.
