May 29, 200422 yr I recently moved my FS( to a seperate hard drive. I went to add a new package from project AI tonite but the installer wont allow me to redirect the path to where I now have FS9 located. A re-install of the installer didn't help because the issue is embeded in my registry somewhere. I searched my registry but found no entry that was relevant to the path location.Anyone know how I can change the path so the installer finds my new location of FS9?TIAJim
May 29, 200422 yr No, but I only have 4 MB left on my HDD and I am constantly having to trim stuff. A dedicated HDD is the answer! FYI I have a 100 GB HDD with a 40 and 60 GB partition respectivly. My FS takes 31 GB!Wilson HinesUAL006VHQCCSenior Vice President, Corporate Communicationshttp://virtual.united.com --------------------------------------Proficiencies: PSS 747,777, A32x, CS 727,PMDG 737-700---------------------------------------FS2002|ActiveSky|FSRealTime|FSBuild2|FSNav|Jep SimCharts2|ACLoaderhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/checkcapt.jpghttp://heavylhc.com/images/av/anna.jpg
May 29, 200422 yr I added the seperate HD & more RAM recently to help with the stutters.End result? Still stutters & now I cant install PAI files!I love this sim anyhow!Jim
May 29, 200422 yr Reading your first post seems to indicate, you moved your entire ..Flight Simulator 9 folder from the installed location to a different drive or partition location without uninstalling and reinstalling. If so, you are correct about the Windows Registry not having the correct new location. You have several choices:1. Update the registry (NOTE: MAKING CHANGES IN THE WINDOWS REGISTRY CAN CAUSE MAJOR PROBLEMS RESULTING IN THE REQUIREMENT TO REINSTALL WINDOWS). Press Start, Run..., type regedit, OK. Open My ComputerHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator9.0. Find the EXE Path on the right hand screen, and double-click on it. Carefully correct the location for the flight simulator, and OK the change. Collapse the entire string on the left panel back to My Computer, then exit the regeditor. If you are uncomfortable with editing the Windows Registry, try choice two.2. Make a copy of the entire Flight Simulator 9 folder and place this copy in the original installation location on your computer. Rename the Flight Simulator 9 folder in the new location to FS2004OLD. Conduct a complete uninstall using the Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs menu. Once uninstalled, use Windows Explorer to delete any residual Flight Simulator 9 folders in the original installation location.Reinstall FS2004 to the new location on your hardrive. Start FS2004, let it stabilize, and check that it is operating properly. If so, exit FS2004. Rename the new Flight Simulator 9 folder to FS2004NEW. Since FS2004NEW and FS2004OLD are now in the same subfolder, they are interchangeable as far as the Windows Registry is concerned. Rename FS2004OLD to Flight Simulator 9. Restart FS2004 and ensure it operates correctly. You name have to reset some of your preferences since the FS9.cfg file was removed during the uninstall. If FS2004 operates correctly, exit the flight simulator and retry the PAI installer. If FS2004 doesn't operate correctly, rename Flight Simulator 9 folder to FS2004OLD, then rename FS2004NEW to Flight Simulator 9 and again check that it operates correctly. Retry the PAI installer.W. May 29, 200422 yr Thanks W. Sieffert.I am OK with making changes to the registry. I guess I was looking for the PAI entry & not looking at the FS9 entry. Yes, I did just copy my FS folder to a new drive (not a seperate partition) & did not do a complete re-install.I will try this later tonite when I get a chance. Thanks for the help.Jim
May 29, 200422 yr There is a program called(I think) PCRELOCATOR that allows you to move a folder to a different partition. And it adjusts the registry accordingly.Abe
May 29, 200422 yr Hi Jim,check HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESoftwareMicrosoftMicrosoft GamesFlight Simulator. There should be an entry there for the exe path.
May 30, 200422 yr Changing that entry still didn't help but thank you for trying. The PAI Installer still thinks that FS9 isn't installed.Oh well, I'm due for an upgrade to XP so I'll work it out then. Thanks for the suggestions:-) Jim
June 1, 200422 yr Don't know if this will work for sure or not, but I know that if AFCAD can't find a registry entry for FS9, it will offer to place one for you. I don't have much experience with editing registry entries (defer to experts here) and don't know if removing the current registry entry for FS9 and then placing one for the new drive location with AFCAD would be advisable or effective, but I've done it with success before.Kevin
