Quick questions about the NG

Featured Replies

howdy folks-

love the NG! few questions if you dont mind.

1. I saved a custom aircraft state in the FMC along with (cold and dark short turn etc.) I find I dont use it. It doesn't do any harm sitting there but i'd rather clean it up and get rid of it and just have the defualt panel states. How do I do this?

2. the take off warning indicator, I've researched through forums but never found a solid answer. I dont think its a bug but something i'm doing. Whenever I increase the throttle the horn sounds and I honestly have gone through all my preflights. (I know there is no easy answer because I could honestly be forgetting something before take off, just frustrating.) I've set the trim correctly etc. Even enabling the TOGA I get the horn.

3. Will the repaint tutorial for the 747 and MD 11 from PMDG work okay with this plane for creating repaints?

4. loading plans from flight sim - anychance I can load flight plans I create by default with FSX? I am going to start building a few and saving them as a CO route, which also brings up the question how do you delete some of the CO routes if you want to? are there saved CO routes already that I can tap into? if so is there a list?

thanks so much!

cheers,

Nate

1 They're stored in your FSX folder, under PMDG/PMDG 737 NGX/PanelState - just delete the ones you don't want

2 Flaps set? It's always in my experience a setup problem

4 Simroutes lets you download .rte files I think. You can't use FSX .pln files in the NGX. You'll find the saved routes in the same structure as above, under pmdg/flightplans

Paul-

thanks for the excellent information!

in regards to-

2. flaps set - I always choose 15, I've tried 25 and got a similar result. I'll have to read through the performance specs / manuals to look into the flap settings, but that may very well the issue. Anyone care to shed more light on the flap settings?

thanks again!

If you've not tried it yet, I'd heartily recommend the 2 Tutorials that ship with the NGX - if you go through them step-by-step and still find you've got an issue, then you might have a problem; if, as I suspect, they both work, they might help you identify where you're going wrong on your flights. Or post a screenie of each step of your FMC setup, that would help us spot the problem. Are you hitting Exec? I see a few people not spotting that the exex button is lit up.

Have you flown the MD-11 before the NGX? If so, you've probably picked up the habit to arm the spoilers before takeoff... Don't.

there it is, do not arm the speedbrake in the NG like you would in the MD 11 what a joy!

thank you again folks!

There is a utility to convert FSX generated flight plans to PMDG format (fpncnv213.zip; do a search for it in the library, plus there's another similar utility which I haven't tried).

What it will let you do is to follow FSX ATC and use LNAV (incl. custom waypoints if you drag and drop in the FSX planner), and VNAV when you're told to climb (if you use FLT LVL CHANGE and MCU ALT).

This isn't one for the purists wanting to use SID's/STAR's, but you can always cancel IFR and/or get going with realworld procedures combined with FSX ATC vectors.

You need to specify your dir locations so that flightplans will end up in the PMDG CO ROUTE dir.

I find I can get going more quickly with flights and flight plans in the short time I get to fly.
