Flight Sim Replicas - Super Cub Ultra

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Looking for some opinions on this.

I really like the look of the A2A cub but the more modern ultra cub has more appeal.

Anyone have good comments about this addon?

I see Bernt Stolle did the FDE which is a good sign........

Thanks for all opinions.

I was wondering the same... I've got the amphibian version and did not like the fde at all...

I don't have the Ultra, and held off on any of them for the longest time because the screenshots make the VC and external graphics look kind of cartoony. I broke down and bought the Super Cub Extreme package a few days ago (for the STOL competitions!) because I saw a couple of YouTube videos that showed the VC in dynamic lighting and it looked pretty good (I'm a VC snob). The textures are subtle, but actually, nice. And the FD has been updated by BStolle. I like the FD. I believe he has a Super Cub himself, and I think it shows. I'm not crazy about the sound package (it seems far too quiet for one thing, and sounds more like an A-65 than a 150-200 hp Lycoming or Continental), but I'm quite enjoying flying it. You can drop those barn door flaps and glide it in around 45 mph and control descent with precision through fine modulations of the throttle. That's pretty good modeling.

I doubt any plane will replace the A2A Cub as my all-time favorite, but she is slow! I like slow, but sometimes it's nice to get on over the horizon with a little more, shall we say, alacrity.

The Ultra has a fairly long thread on sim-outhouse.....got some glowing reports.

Think I will give it a shot!

So I purchased it this morning. Very pleased with it in general so far.

Seems to forward and side slip OK. Stalling (power on and off) is almost impossible and entry into one is very docile. Not sure if this is true of the real aircraft, but it may be given its real life STOL abilities. It enters a spin of sorts with enough rudder at the entry point. Maybe some others with more experience of this aircraft could offer an opinion? I only have time in 152's and 172's. I should think it will be close as Bernt did this FDE and apparently he has a Super Cub himself.

Lots of goodies with the tent and cargo etc. Great view from the cockpit. Love landing with the floor level windows. Great to see the shadow of the aircraft coming up under the big tyres......

All in all a good purchase at $25 (I had a discount coupon for PC Aviator)
