May 31, 200422 yr I installed my mini network with my new PC and my old notebook that works with Win98, and then installed WideFS and tried it.The program works well because I use Active Sky in the second computer with no problem. But for some reason I am not able to connect to Squawkbox. I do the following (remember I use FS2002):Open WideFS in the secondary PCOpen FS2002 and create a flight in the main PC.Open Multiplayer session in FS2002.Then in the secondary I open Squawkbox host and Squawkbox main. Then in Squawkbox main I start my search and then I have the problem. No matter if I write nothing in the search box, or if I write 127.0.0.1 I get no reply and can't choose my session. As per the instructions I installed sqbx in the secondary PC first and then reinstalled it in the main. Also, after seeing that I couldn't connect I installed DirectX9 in the secondary PC (Something that had helped me connect in the main PC in the past) but got no result.I am also suspecting that this problem creates another one, because the last time I tried to connect to sqbx using WideFS in teh secondary PC, FS2002 crashed to desktop at the moment sqbx was looking for the session. Can anyone help me?Thanks,Leo
May 31, 200422 yr Have you tried the SB or ProController forums Leo? These questions on connections crop up frequently on those forums and while they can be difficult to tie down you may advice there that you can try.Try a search with something like "cannot connect to SB" or a general term like "Widefs"Have you tried the Pilot Resource Center linked to from the main VATSIM web site?I have been running 2 computers for flying with VATSIM for years and the only time I had problems was when i switched from Win98 to Win2k, so it is possible to do.First of all are you sure your mini network is working correctly? I know you say AS works OK but can you 'see' each computer from the other and can you ping each computer?Have you modified the Widefs ini and SB ini files as explained in the docs? Are you using the correct version of SB for using Widefs, the setup is different than when using one computer. Are there any firewalls involved? If none of the above work post back with how you have to software set up on the computers, use the following naming so we know which PC is which - Internet connected PC, LAN PC.
June 1, 200422 yr I haven't tried those forums. I know everybody checks this one so I posted here (I hope nobody gets bothered).I also tried a search in the forums, but there were a lot of posts and none of them were like my problem. The LAN works fine. yes, I pinged both computers and they see each other. I modified the WideFS ini files but I can't find the SB ini file (I checked in the SB folder in Program Files). I guess the problem is here. Where do I find that ini file. The version of SB I have is v2.3 Beta. Is this the one I should use. There is a firewall, but SB doesn't even connect when it is off. Thanks for you attention, and please answer the two things I don't know.Leo
June 1, 200422 yr Leo;I think you need to enter the IP address of the FS host PC in the SquawkBox search box. 127.0.0.1 is a special address that points a PC to itself. You are in effect telling the secondary PC to look for a host session on itself, rather than on your FS host machine. June 1, 200422 yr Your SB ini file is in the Windows folder Leo "Squawkbox.ini" and you need to add the following line "WIDEFSVER=3" as the top line in the SB section.I am almost sure that will cure the problem. You have the correct version of SB.If your firewall is by Norton then turning it off or disabling it probably will not help. For testing purposes completely uninstall it and try. If that works then you can try reinstalling Norton and see if you can get it working but others have had real problems getting it to work.If your firewall is Norton and you cannot get VATSIM to work with it the only suggestion I can make is go for Zone Alarms free firewall.HTH
