July 18, 201213 yr Hey guys! I'm soooo excited to say that I will be building my first PC ever! One of my buddy will be helping me ;) Today I got most of the parts except the case, thats why I will be building my PC tomorrow after work :) Here are some pictures of what I got today. I'll be posting pictures and reviews once i'm all set up. Come and join me. Cheers!
July 18, 201213 yr Just make sure you don't shove the PCI-E 6+2 power cable into the 8 pin CPU Power thingi like I did. :) The MB power requires two power rail... 1 24 pin thingi which you cannot miss..then there should be a dedicated 8 pin cpu power cable for the cpu power thingi on the MB Good luck Manny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
July 18, 201213 yr I've just built my new FSX PC based around the Ivy Bridge 3570k. Got it overclocked to 4.6ghz and the performance is amazing. Also with an SSD it took me about 3 minutes to get default FSX installed onto it.. Let us all know how you get on. Phil Mosley - Rotation Films http://youtube.com/rotationfsx @RotationFilms
July 19, 201213 yr Nice looking build. Enjoy! If you want to get the most out of your CPU, you'll need to overclock. With Ivy Bridge, heat is a real problem when overclocking but there are ways to address it. If you're interested, I can go into further detail. I run my 3770K at 4.9GHz (for now) and am looking to push it further.
July 19, 201213 yr Hi all! So after a few hrs of building my pc is up and running fine!! Fsx runs great with maxed graphic seeting i get over 200+ FPS! With add on scenrery i get about 50 FPS! Do I still need to edit my FSX CFG? Will it help? I will post pics soon! Cheers! Nice looking build. Enjoy! If you want to get the most out of your CPU, you'll need to overclock. July 19, 201213 yr Just turn off the machine would love to OC a little!! How would you do it? In the Asus BIOS? For a quick OC without messing with BIOS or any overt OCing.... Turn off your PC. Flip the TPU switch and restart your PC, the system would cycle through a few times and it would be OCed to 4.1Ghz or somewhere close Check the video here at 8:40 to see where the TPU switch is. http://www.newegg.co...N82E16813131820 Remember, the CPU would only be running at 1.6Ghz when you are in windows until you load up FSX or some heavy processor seeking app ...then it kick starts the processor to whatever max it has. Do not start OCing via BIOS and what not without spending time learning about the OC. you could brick your CPU if you inadvertently do something silly like I have done before. The ASUS would not prevent you from...over volting it. Be patient and read and learn as much as you can. Even then when you are in BIOS...after you make any changes, before hitting F10 (Save and exit) double check everything you have done. write it down... Instead of typing 1.19v your could ver easily type in 1.9v... Tsk Tsk Been there done that! :) Another thing, is go to Intel website for insuring your CPU. I forget the link and register your CPU Srl number after paying some $30 before attempting any hard OCing. The insurance kicks starts after 30 day or so I am told... You need to dbl check. This way, if you brick your CPU, you can get a replacement once. But you need this only if you are really going to be pushing it or impatient and careless like I was. And yes..you would need to optimize your fsx.cfg and apply Word Not Allowed's tuning. when you start adding addons,, that would be required to get a 30FPS locked using single monitor. FSX is still a dog...that hasn't changed a bit. :) Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
July 20, 201213 yr So by just flipping the TPU switch once the CPU will OC itself? Yes. And you need to keep it in that on position for that OC. IF you reset it back to what it was. it would reset to default Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
