July 18, 201213 yr I would like like some input from AS/REX users about the following: When flying FSX I usually go IFR in Alaska or the PNW. The FSX weather generator is adequate but the cloud textures defiantly need improvement, can anyone recommend the setup I need. It seems most people buy both REX and AS, REX for the textures and AS for the most accurate weather generator is this necessary? There seems to be a lot of info and screen shots for REX but less so for AS. My ideal set up would be the following: -The best real world weather generator -The best cloud textures for FSX -The best product(s) to complement IFR real world flying -The themed settings look nice but I would never use them -Generating my own weather is of no use also. Thanks, Taube
July 18, 201213 yr Moderator AS2012 by far. REX textures had a big head start and subsequently a large user base with lots of screenies. I always preferred FEX as I feel they are much more realistic than REX although not as "dramatic". When AS2012 was released I went to the AS2012 graphics and never looked back. Least frame rate hit with top quality and extremely realistic - coupled with the leading weather program in the field - a no brainer, IMHO. You don't need a theme, Just select your favorite cloud sets and fly. RIG#1 - I9 14900K MSI Pro z790 RTX 5070Ti 40" 4K Monitor 3840x2160
July 21, 201213 yr I use ASE with FEX. A weather engine was the last thing I added. I used a FREEWARE weather engine for a long time FSrealWX but got tired of dealing with a few issues I kept having using it. So... since I already had FEX I then added ASE and am happy with that setup. My biggest gripe I have with using a weather engine is that we all want a realistic flight experience and realistic weather only to be dissapointed on how FSX handles runway assignments for AI (that we want realistic) and to have your TO runway in the wrong direction or to be greeted with a 747 headed straight at you just as you are landing (UNrealistic) The above example mostly only happen in a CALM wind situation but read of others having issue in non calm wind situations.
