Regarding multiple FDMs, P3D already supports them. It is tied to SimConnect. The Developing Team has said that no further work is being contemplated for the flight model. But you can use your own via SimConnect.

 

As for backwards compatibility, the Team has also said that they want to keep it for as long as it is feasible to do so. One of the reasons why P3D will remain for the time being as a 32 bit software.
