July 22, 201213 yr Hi again everyone... Ok, using FSPS, in laying out a panel, for the first time (not that I've used it that much yet) I'm getting certain gauges distorted. Also: bonus confusion: I don't quite get the setting of the size in MM... For some reason, if I put a value in both (proportional) it doesn't seem to work correctly, but if I leave the first at 640, the window generally seems ok. FWIW this is for a monitor with a resolution of 2560 x 1440. Attached screenshot shows the issue - the GPS stuff gets distorted but the other gauges look fine. Can anyone shed light on what might be making the gauges distort, and/or what the deal is exactly with the MM window sizing? thanks, Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
July 22, 201213 yr Moderator It's not terribly complicated. FSPS was coded to support 4:3 ratio screen displays. It has not been updated to provide support for the by now "default" 16:9 ratio monitors! As a result, we are forced to "fiddle" with the positions and sizes of each gauge individually to compensate for the ratio differences. I've written to the programmer of FSPS many times over the past few years, but have yet to get a reply one way or another. I've also posted frequently in the Flight1 support forum without answer. Fr. July 23, 201213 yr Author Thanks again... Well, the ratios seem to be ok on the T and N gauges, just the GPSs are messed up. Too bad about the lack of response, I'm finding that to be too common. regards, Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
July 23, 201213 yr Moderator It is possible that some of the gauges you are trying to place don't have any size information for the background, with the result that FSPS is having to set the y height to equal the x height. One way to check to see if this is the problem is to enter an x value, then press the Tab key to leave the y value "blank." If the gauge contains correct dimensional information, FSPS will automatically fill in the correct y value scaled to the x value you entered... In any case, all you really need to do in FSPS is to use the mouse to "grab" the lower edge of the yellow box around the selected gauge and move it UP until the knobs are round and the face of the gauge looks right! July 23, 201213 yr Author Hi Bill - and thanks again- Doing it manually is how I tried it the 1st time, though holding shift to keep them proportional. This ended up with what you see. Next, I looked in the boxes as you note, and the y value WAS actually blank, so I calculated the ratios and entered the info... and ended up with what you see here. Then, I just tried dragging them around manually, and it worked ;) I'd like a bit more precision, but it works for me, for now... regards Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
July 23, 201213 yr Moderator You only hold the shift key if you are dragging a corner and wish to retain the same ratio. Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
July 26, 201213 yr Author Hello Bill- Actually, that's what I did the first time; I'm not sure that my fiddling around with the gauges kept them in line with their original proportions, but I can deal with a few pixels variance if the alternative is resulting in errors! cheers Andrew H e l p k e e p A V S I M f l y i n g
