July 22, 201213 yr Every now and then, I encounter this tremendous wind shear just before touchdown. The plane banks instantly about 40 degrees for a few seconds, then back. This is unrealistic, as the plane pretty much becomes uncontrollable. No thunderstorms or such in the area. I am using FS9. Could this be caused by ActiveSky, or maybe settings within FS9? I could not find a similar post here. Jim Jim Boerman
July 22, 201213 yr Usually caused by wake turbulence or bad thermals, although it can be caused by wind layers as well. Turn off wake turbulence and turn thermal generation way down... DJ
July 23, 201213 yr Commercial Member I was on approach to KPHL in a little Grumman Tiger this morning when an A321 blew by and I did a 360 roll 2 times. i think I was about 500 ft. agl when I finally got the nose up. Regards, Dave Opper HiFi Support Manager
July 24, 201213 yr Author Tried another flight today from Atlanta to El Paso. Same issue happened again, even after lowering the thermal generation settings. Guess I'll just turn them off and see if that works. Jim Jim Boerman
July 25, 201213 yr Commercial Member What are your wake turbulence settings at? They winds can blow around for a few minutes after an AC takes off. Regards, Dave Opper HiFi Support Manager
July 25, 201213 yr Author The wake turbulence setting was at 50, and I lowered it to 20. Just completed a flight from KELP to KDFW with no problems. Jim Boerman
