June 12, 200421 yr Here's a good one for you. I recently was installing a third party panel and following the instructions to add a line to the FS9.cfg, I went to my documents folder and looked (as I have done successfully in the past) for my Application Data folder. Not there! I checked to see if my "view hidden files" was checked. Yep. Then I did a search to find it and the result was negative.Anybody have any ideas where my Application datamicrosoftfs9.cfg file could have gone or how my Flight sim could opperate without it, as it does?Anything could be of helpThanks,John
June 12, 200421 yr Not sure if this will help, but try inputting this into your 'path line' in your file browser: c:Documents and Settings{USER NAME THAT YOU NEED TO INPUT)Application Dataand then see if you can get into that folder, making sure to substitude in your username ;)
June 12, 200421 yr Thanks for the suggestion. I just tried it and got "cannot find" message. I've been looking and thinking about this for a couple of days and it just mystifies me.Thanks,John
June 12, 200421 yr Do a search in windows explorer and see if you can find your FS9.cfg file. It should show the location. That is if you haven't tried this already?
June 12, 200421 yr If that folder took a hike, then many, many more applications besides fs9 would be affected. Unfortunetly I don't know what to do. Sorry :(
June 12, 200421 yr Check out the READ ME post in the Tips and Tricks forum...one of the first items is how to find and edit that file.
June 12, 200421 yr Author FS can run without the FS9.cfg file, but it will create a new one when it's run for the first time. It will use the default settings, as if FS was installed for the first time. This means that the resolution will be set at 640x480. If your FS defaults to a different resolution (i.e. one that you have chosen), then you have a working FS9.cfg.Cheers,Gosta.http://www.hifisim.com/images/as2betateam.jpg
June 13, 200421 yr OK.... I get the dummy award. I was looking under My Documents not Documents and Settings, but that still doesn't answer why a search for FS9.cfg or Applicaton Data found nothing. Thanks for the helpJohn
June 13, 200421 yr Maybe the reason it didn't find it is because you needed to go to "advanced options" in Search and check "search hidden files and folders "Dave
June 14, 200421 yr Another way is to type "%userprofile%" (without the quotes) in the address bar. Windows will resolve it to the proper folder for your user account. This works even when hidden files are not shown (of course if they're hidden you won't be able to see the Application Data folder. )(BTW this works with any aliased folder, such as %temp%.)
June 15, 200421 yr Here's another tip. Once you've found the file, create a shortcut and put it on your desktop. It makes life a lot easier !Cheers,Alastair
