Saitek Instrument Panels freezing/crashing

Featured Replies

Hi Folks

Newbie to AVsim, and fairly new to FSX, but have a problem with my Saitek Instrument Panels...

I have 6 of them, and have plugged 3 each, into 2 D-Link powered 7 port USB hubs, but am finding that when flying in FSX, 4 of them keep freezing/locking up, some do it until I close FSX and some do it for a few minutes then start working again... Its really annoying, and of course, un-usable like this...

Anybody got any advice or help on what might be causing the panels to keep freezing up during flight or what I could do to stop it happening?

Thanks, really appreciate having such a huge community I can come to for some help :-)

Anybody got any advice/help with this?

Saitek just keep telling my I dont have enough power, which is odd because my PC is running an 850w Corsair PSU and the USB hubs are also powered seperately, 5v @3amps each and my graphics card has 2 GPU's (ATI 6990) powering 3 24" screens..

ok, panic over, I resolved this myself by buying 2 new powered USB hubs..

Whatever you do guys, do NOT, ever, use D-Link DUB-H7 powered hubs (5v @ 3amps), as they are not powerful enough to run any saitek panels....

I just got 2 new Belkin 7 port ultra-slim desktop hubs, and these are 5v @ 3.8amps, and all my Saitek kit is now working beautifully, and the F.I.P's seem brighter too

Just noticed this post and now I'm wondering... I have EXACTLY that D-Link USB hub which currently powers my multi-panel with no problems. I'm about to add the radio panel and now I'm a bit concerned.

I'm thinking your warning is certainly warranted, as in looking at the D-Link's specs, things don't add up. Each port is rated at the proper USB 2 spec of 0.5 amps (x7) but the wall-wart is a 3 amp supply. You do the math. :-( You clearly can't completely fill this hub with power hungry devices even at rated specs

What I'm wondering is what's the max current draw of the various Saitek panels? Can't find this spec'ed anywhere, but I'm sure they're fairly power hungry devices pushing the USB 2 power spec near its 0.5 amp limit. I'm guessing I'll be able to add the second panel but your experience suggests a third might be pushing it, which shouldn't be the case. Is this because the D-Link doesn't even work at its rated power supply current, the Saitek panels draw too much or both of the above?

Either way, something doesn't add up here and I'm probably going to need a new powered hub soon.

Hi Scott

From what I found, it seems its my own fault for not reading the instructions, because those hubs are powered, but only 2 of the 7 ports are powered for fast charging things like phones/ipads etc, the 5 white ones seem to be just standard ports.

I replaced my 2 with Belkin ultra slim 7 port hubs, 3.8amps each, and everything works perfectly now...

Thank you for confirming my fears.  Have just purchased a TARGUS 7-Port desktop USB hub.  The Saitek panels (3 of them) freeze up while flying.  I have not been able to source the specs ont he ports but the product has been discontinued and thus no tech support.  Morale of the story .. RESEARCH before buying!!!! deffinately not TARGUS for Saitek. Regards

Have just found the specs  of the TARGUS 7-PORT desktop USB Hub  .... 5v @ 3 amps  .... not good enough .....  will chat to MADCATZ about this.  They should warn the clients ....
