June 17, 200421 yr My daughter, who has recently joined the FS Community lost her pet hamster. You guessed it .... she found it in her computer!!! No damage done but a PC bug I am sure noone can beat. Unless you have a story of your own of course?:-eek Andrew and Ruth"If it can go wrong it probably will. If it doesn't then turn it off"
June 17, 200421 yr I've found a few dead spiders in my old PC, but nothing that big! :(http://album.atomic-systems.com/showPic.ph...rbus_Advert.gif Quote from MS Flight Team Lead: "We’ve made some guesses"
June 17, 200421 yr Hmm, how does a hampster get in the computer case? :-lol I am glad everything worked out and the hampster was returned to its rightful owner :-hah
June 17, 200421 yr AndrewI really feel for you as I had a simular experience with the Microwave and the family pet hamster who had a habit of going in there. We found him as black as soot. At least I think it was him as he had been fried to coke. There was a vague possibility the black mass could have been a potato and this is what we told the children but we never saw him again. So do be careful letting family pets play with electronics of any kind you have been warned next time it could be fried ;-)Peter
June 18, 200421 yr Hi Peter,Such a shame - you actually had a genius hamster that could operate the microwave from the inside and it gets itself fried. I hope you don't have any pet squirrels as I understand that they're even brighter than hamsters ! Maybe if you do have one you could teach it to fly the simulator (although the pedals may be a problem.)I forsee a new add-on market. Pet-Proofing your PC.Cheers,Alastair
June 18, 200421 yr Can't claim to have any live animals in the PC - but , once a month I clean out all the heatsinks , fan casings etc and I regularly remove large quantities of black dog hair . This comes from my very large , extremely hairy hound who seems to have bought the art of producing and dropping hair to new levels of efficiency. We did accidentally tumble dry the cat(door left open - cat went in for a nice sleep) a few years ago - luckily we were alerted by the heavy thumping almost as soon as the machine was started so he got away with it ( 8 lives left!)Dave
June 18, 200421 yr Back in the mid 70's I was a tv repairman. I went into homes and pulled the back off the big TV's and found all sorts of stuff -Roaches, mice, spiders. No snakes, thank God, although I have heard it's happened. These were in what appeared to be clean homes (most of the time). And no holes chewed to let in something as big as mouse. The worst was a black widow that had traveled from the southwest with a military family that transferred up here to Wahington (we don't have widows here, but I grew up in Tucson, so I know one when I see it). Still alive. Looked like she was feeding on the insects that thought they had found a safe, warm, dark place to live. The man of the house put it in a jar so he could prove it to the guys on base.My favorite was an escapee pet tarantula. I let it crawl up on my hand and told the wife (the only person home) she was either gonna be real happy to see this again, or totaly freak! Turned out it was her son's. She hated the **** thing, and made me take it home and promise not to let her son know I found it. The other option was a 21 flush salute.
June 18, 200421 yr Years ago (I used to be a computer salesperson and part-time techo) We had a customer that owned an aquarium shop and "needed" a computer - every damn month we had the thing in for "warranty repair" and we just about had to rebuild it every time - it took 6 months to work out that the cockroaches were actually "eating" though all the circuit traces on the various "boards"Needless to say our "agreement" came to an unsavoury end
July 1, 200421 yr Interesting replies :-)As to how did it get there? That remains unanswered, the only gap found was a couple of missing blanking plates at the back of the PC and the plate that should surround where you plug in KB/Mouse (or hamster lol) / USB etc.No noticeable change in frame rates. It seems this adventurous animal also has a nest somewhere in the chimney, the plot thickens. I just hope that my daughter doesn't have kids ;-) who knows where thay might turn up.I hasten to add that my daughter lives in her own flat and that this hamster has nothing to do with me so any damage done by it to any PCs in Plymouth, UK is not my fault.
