Just recently upgraded my machine (added 7870 and SSD) a bit to start playing FSX agian (stopped playing for a while but back into it agian). I only use this machine for FSX. I am wanting to run it with everything maxed out, it pretty much can do this but it still does struggle sometimes with low framerate/jittering over complex terrain. I am running REX and ORBX ftx Australia

Current setup

 

i7 920 OC'd to 4.2Ghz (On air with Coolermaster 812)

GA-EX58-UD3R

6GB 1333Mhz GEIL RAM

SAPPHIRE 7870 OC 2GB

Thermaltake 750W PSU

Antec 900 case

Kingston 120GB SSD (Win 7 ult and FSX only)

 

Is this setup just not capable? Should get a new mobo + CPU? Anything to add/change on my current setup?

 

Just not sure if its my CPU, RAM, GPU? Or all of it?

It is not just hardware alone or this would all be moot. Spend X amount of $$ and fly smoothly everywhere. Too EZ if you have a fat wallet. Your hardware list is adequate but I have seen online reviews on boxes made for FSX-only commercially that ALSO had studders (ie) in Manhattan and London..etc etc..pick your city.. There are so many variables ..your hardware list beats mine so I would suggest a FREE first stop at Bojote's FSX Tweaking Tool website..it really helped my FSX box.. See you in the skies! B)

Absolutely. I suggest running Bojote's tweaker first, and then fine tuning with the linked guide Srdan was kind enough to put together. Don't forget the great links found in Tom's FSX thread in the "tips and tricks" section.
