August 20, 201213 yr Anyone tell me what the V or W after ILS - using arrival to LIRN as an example. ILSV 24 , ILSW 24 etc NGX is great Denis Brown
August 20, 201213 yr They're just designators for the same approach. You should use them in the opposite direction as the normal alphabet goes. This means that ILS Z has the priority, Y is the second, X 3rd, W is 4th and in your case V the 5th. So, you want to select the one that has a correlated point with the end of your STAR/transition. You would normally check ILS Z chart, then Y and so on until you find the one that you need. There might be some notes In the NOTAMs regarding those transitions into the ILS like "ILS Z RWY 24 not available due to ...". In this case you would then start looking at ILS Y and move down. I hope I didn't made this too complicated ^_^ Aljaz Prislan
August 20, 201213 yr For example, one approach will use a missed approach procedure based on VOR Napoli, other on NDB Napoli, and yet other on, say VOR Pompei, for example. The ATC will assing you the arrival depending on serviceability of the navigational transmitters, and on traffic flow (for ex. ILS Z might have you turned left on missed, and ILS Y might have you turn right, now depending on where the traffic is going through, you will be given one of those) --Peter Fabian
