PMDG turns 20 next year!
You mean no Westland Woodpigeon? That's it, I'm leaving.

Are CATIII Autolands runway dependent?
I didn't choose to ignore that - I very specifically said it's irrelevant, since AFDS is totally independent from HUGS and therefore HUGS is in no way related to the problem described; and need not be discussed here. I appologize if it was your intention to separate the ideas, but it didn't came out that way - to me it seemed like you were saying the airplane needs to have Fail Op to do an automatic landing.

I would like to hire a repainter
I'm not sure, too lawyerese. I'd argue that I'm not redistributing it, and obviously anyone doing so with the livery they paid me for would be in breach. I am not a lawyer though and I'm not going to be one to bother PMDG lawyers with it - I don't want to waste PMDG money.

747-400 in PMDG 747 v2 base pack
I"ve asked this a while back, Tabs was kind enough to list all the variants that will be present in the base pack. You can find the thread through my profile I believe. (edit. or not. Seems to only show content from last year...)

I would like to hire a repainter
I thought that only limited *sale* of the liveries, not contracting out to make them? i.e. I can pay, say, Christian Mohr to do me a livery, but I can't further sell it (however I may choose to give it away for free)

Are CATIII Autolands runway dependent?
Fair enough, although the green/amber indications, while worded differently, are functionally practically identical. It was, however, stated in this thread: which is not true, and that is what I objected to. Agreed.

Are CATIII Autolands runway dependent?
Not true, fail-op option is comparatively rare in an NG, and airplanes with fail-passive option are fully capable of (CAT IIIa) automatic landing, only without rollout. To say one has to have fail-op option for autoland to work is therefore in essence a lie, whether intentional or misguided, and damaging to community as a whole in it's understanding of operation. It's the same kind of thing like when people started claiming all of a sudden that using a low CI is a universal remedy for descend problems, while that might only mitigate the symptoms (if even that) of the root problem - improper descent planning. While true, it is irrelevant, as any HUGS setting does not have any bearing on AFDS behaviour; as such a red herring that should not be discussed while troubleshooting a different system (only adds confusion). Besides, the lower minima from HUGS only happen for hand-flown approaches anyway, no bearing on automatic landing. That is true, but it does have to happen between APP mode engagement and the point where self-check begins -it's therefore important for troubleshooting to ensure that second AP connection is happening consistently before the selfchecks would begin.

Are CATIII Autolands runway dependent?
Hi all, feel a need to add: - Fail Op autopilot is NOT required for automatic landing (only for rollout) - HGS is NOT required for automatic landing and it DOES NOT matter if it's set up, and how. - Runways in FS world are all perfectly precise ILS wise and will support an autoland as long as there is an actual ILS. - If the option is installed, Glideslope CAN be capured before localizer. - Have both radios definitely set to the same frequency and show the same indications - crosscheck this! Same course ideally as well. And attach second AP soon enough (as soon as you click on APP)

FSX to P3D Pricing policy....
Not for free, but a discount was expected by many based on several factors, such as: -Robs announcements - while he did never explicitely promise a discount, he said repeatedly he'll try to see if he can find a way. In the end PMDG offered introductory pricing on P3D products which is kind of neither here nor there, as it was available for limited time only and to all customers, including those who didn't own FSX version. -Industry standard - all major FS publishers up to that time included some kind of discount and/or license transfer scheme up to that point, including A2A, who offered to exchange anyones FSX product to P3D Academic line at no cost at the point of split. I took advantage of that offer, and now own a P3D Cessna 172 Trainer. (Of course, no other FS publisher was in quite the same situation as PMDG is regarding legal situation and contracts with manufacturers) It's more like... getting a student license and then getting a new one for another PC after you are no longer a student, or taking your home license and using it in your business..

TOPCAT questions
I can imagine that it'd be easier to jump across the channel if whole of England was under probable mist or what have you. I don't think it being abroad should be that much of an issue, being in EU.

FSX to P3D Pricing policy....
At the end of the day, it's PMDGs right to do whatever they want, including folding tomorrow without releasing anything ever anymore. So you have to figure out for yourself if it's worth it. I decided I wasn't going to pay the full price for the same addon again, so PMDG didn't get P3D business from me. You can decide the same, or different, and that is your right. I might get the 747 for P3D. We'll see.

TOPCAT questions
Kevin: I found SimBrief alternate choice actually quite smart if sometimes counterintuitive. One of these days I'll ask about it.

TOPCAT questions
1. Nominally TOPCAT works for aby 738. Mass is mass. You might need to fiddle with numbers to make what you see in TOPCAT loading screen fall more in line with what you see in NGX Note: NEVER use TOPCAT loading screen to actually load the NGX. What I do, is click up a load in TOPCAT and then use the ZFW output to plug into NGX. 2. TOPCAT is a performance calculator with a loadout screen and a rudimentary fuel guesstimate function to use before you get some proper numbers. PFPX and Simbrief are both quite serious route planning softwares, one web based, one client software; one free one paid. Feel free to use whichever. I recommend SimBrief, it's plenty good and it's free. PFPX might be somewhat more powerful, but it's more complicated and quite expensive. The difference that further happens in there is, that SimBrief will not populate TOPCAT fields, you'll have to do it by hand, and obviously SimBrief doesn't integrate TOPCAT in it's UI (which I think is irrelevant for you) 3. TOPCAT is not particularly difficult to operate. Understanding the whole Performance subject is much more difficult, but it is definitely doable. 4. You can just plug in your estimate or have TOPCAT do a (very crude) estimate for itself. It can even suggest an alternate. Not neccessarilly a very good alternate, but an alternate. 5. TOPCAT can get the weather info it needs from NOAA, IVAO, VATSIM and I think probably from the sim itself. You just click a button. Works very well with ActiveSky

P3D v3: 777 gauge dll crashes P3D and un-clickable VC
Among other things, they put in there how you shouldn't change to the 777 after loading a default plane... so. (looking at you, Sandeep )

NADP 2 FMC settings
Mike: You don't use FD to rotate, you try to do the three-second rotation as described in FCTM which should lead to a nice fluid liftoff. Yellow bars are not guidance, but a reminder not to overrotate and scrape the tail. As soon as you are safely flying, go for the FD. Anyway if you have your plane set up correctly, it will show you what to do via FD. After all, AP wouldn't do anything else besides follow the bars.

Any chance of getting further (ER) variants?
Oh yes. the BBJ I'd probably like even more than ER.

737 NGX VOR LOC not arming
Ah, on the contrary - this week has been exceptionally easy. Especially since by last weekend we managed to tie up loose ends with a certain upgrade action I've been battling with for a month... I'm quite enjoying a bit of a slowdown. Last week this time however... it was a different situation, you could tell me I was called Kyle and I might believe you.

Any chance of getting further (ER) variants?
Back when the NGX was released, there was talk of additional ER pack being released after the 6/700. Is this still on the table, or was this scrapped? I suppose possibly after 747 is out there would be an SP to roll back some improvements (I'm still hoping for new ARIN424 compliant data format and FANS module accepting FMS), and maybe that would be a chance to get some more out? The hull and wings are essentially unchanged (aerodynamically) as I understand, so new FDE shouldn't be a much of an issue... And maybe scimitar winglets? If PMDG has some data access to those.

737 NGX VOR LOC not arming
One more point I'd like to add. Forget about lights on MCP. They mean something, but they decidedly DON'T mean that this or that mode is armed and/or engaged. ALWAYS look at the PFD for that. Peter: That sounds like reasonably likely case.

PMDG 747v2 and P3D
Rob - does this mean that P3D version will be for v3(.1?) only? Or do you also plan for v2.5?
