August 22, 201213 yr Good day, In doing some Google searches this morning, I haven't found many reviews or comments on the Instant Object Studio package being sold by Flight1. I was hoping that some of you good folks have had a bit of experience using the product and can share your thoughts on it. I'm not looking to design anything overly complex - primarily just some generically textured warehouses, industrial, and office buildings which will sit comfortably over photoreal scenery for now. Maybe down the road I'll dive into custom textured items or more complex geometry, but my first interests are very basic. Any comments you might have on the product would be appreciated! -Greg
August 23, 201213 yr Hi Greg: You may find this 2-part "review" of Instant Object Studio (aka "IOS") by Arno Gerretsen helpful: http://msmvps.com/bl...ect-studio.aspx http://msmvps.com/bl...dio-part-2.aspx Also, comments in a thread started here by Sid Schwartz (a Beta Tester for that project) may be helpful: http://forum.avsim.n...-object-studio/ And the "IOS" product page itself has a 20 minute demo video (IIUC by author Konstantin Kukushkin) along with a downloadable demo version: http://www.flight1.c...oduct=insobjstu Additionally, end user issues are discussed on the author's support forum at: http://www.simforums...ls_forum31.html\ PS: I haven't personally had a chance to test that package yet, but it looks like a fine tool for FS scenery object creation which may be less complex to use than Sketchup, GMAX or 3DSMAX for many (but not all) aspects of 3D modeling in FS development. Hope this helps ! GaryGB
August 23, 201213 yr Author Thanks for the links, Gary. I've already seen Arno's blogs on the subject (*reached out to him via the comments area, too!), and the demo video. I'll take a look at the other items you've provided. The support forum might be especially useful. Cheers, -Greg
August 24, 201213 yr It is easy to work with and has some very handy features like the ability to cut windows and doors into a wall. The wall can use a basic texture, then windows and doors can but put in by simply drawing them. There are some weaknesses, but many of them can be addressed in ModelConverterX. For instance, IOS doesn't have the ability to do LODs or volume shadows. They can be added in MCX. Attached is an IOS model I did recently. It uses a single texture sheet based on a relatively close up photo. My Freeware Sceneries
