August 26, 201213 yr I've found this archived discussion from the past avsim forum. The original poster Alias asked: Hi,sometimes my STAR begins at over 30 miles from the airport, but anytime I have to tweak with the flight plan in order to be left in peace while passing the last waypoint to begin the procedure as the ATC gives me headings I don't care about. Is there any way to leave the flight plan as it is and extend the STAR acceptance from RC? Thank you Lorenzo And one of the suggestions that I found interesting was: schroewo: Hi,if you don't want to put the "long range star" into flight plan, maybe you can ask RC4 for a "Dev for Wx" (see manual page 151) after reaching the last waypoint to fly the star. And if you are within 70nm of the destination airport, it should be possible to ask for an iap approach. Haven't test it, but it should work. Wolfgang Did anyone try to use a similar method. Do you think this should work? Thanks, Dirk.
August 27, 201213 yr An IAP approach becomes available after you contact approach and ack your first vector which comes with your runway assignment. That will be about 35 nm out when you get the opportunity to request the IAP. As far as runway specific STARs, include just the the waypoints common to all runways in the plan sent to RC. If you use an FMC or other nav device make sure those waypoints are in sync sent to the RC plan. If you use a flight planner that has a Navigraph.com terminal procedure database and you FMC\nav device also has it then at least use one subscription period to get both in sync I wrote this tip sheet for RC and fsbuild but the general ideas apply here:
