Solved - CCC 3D Settings Problem Running Flight Simulator 2004 with XFX Radeon 6950 Graphics Card

Featured Replies

I built a new PC using Windows XP Pro as the OS just for working on FS9 projects. For some mysterious reason I can't seem to smooth out the jaggies on the image edges with the XFX Radeon 6950 2GB Double Dissipation graphics card, the latest AMD drivers and the latest AMD Catalyst Control Center (CCC). Everything installs properly and everything but the 3D settings in CCC seem to work fine. I have tried all kinds of combinations of the 3D settings in CCC and nothing seems to have any effect on the jaggies. :(

At first blush this seems very similar to the jaggies problem with NVIDIA cards and for which there is a workaround. The difference is that the AMD CCC 3D settings have an "override applications settings" option which I am using. :(

Has anyone else experienced this problem and if so have you found an appropriate workaround for it?

Mike

Edit: I just tried full screen mode and all the jaggies disappeared. I've never seen this before on my previous PC's, but apparently the 3D settings in AMD CCC now only work for full screen view in FS9.

Have you disabled anti-aliasing in-game ? AA override will not apply unless in-game AA is disabled.

Brian,

Yes, I had disabled it in FS9.

Live and learn.

Thanks for your reply.

Hi Mike,

That's weird as I get no jaggies in both full screen, windowed and whatever size of window I drag with my ATI 5800 series.

I had a similar issue when I got a new machine. I discovered I was launching FS before CCC had loaded!! If I came out of FS and went back into it after CCC had loaded (as a process in task manager) the jaggies had gone.......

Jon,

I never had the problem with my ATI 4600 either, but I've tried everything with this ATI 6950 and the jaggies just will not disappear in windows view. :(

On the bright side, it is a great card and in full screen mode the images are awesome.

Interesting topic, as some older addon aircraft only seem to work well when in "windowed" mode. Do you have any other issues arrising from using "full scren" ?

Not yet, but I just switched to over to using "full screen" mode all the time. I'm currently looking for a way to work around the "windowed" mode 3D graphics issue.
