when I spent my vacations in mountainuous Georgia within the last two weeks, I found a very interesting airport:

 

 

There is a military site nearby, so that I was carefully with taking photos.

 

It seems that this could be a challenge for an interested scenery builder. Unfortunately, there's not much "hard" data about this airport available in the net. There are some pictures here, especially showing the terminal building

As I could see, there are no more than two stands for DHC-6 Twin Otter (a division of Borek Air flies scheduled flights there one or two times a day with this type) or similar. Who knows more? Who wants to try a scenery? Unfortunately, my scenery building skills have a level of "zero", but perhaps somebody gets encouraged. It would be much appreciated not only by me, I think.

I can only second your wish for a scenery of the new Mestia airport. We have been in Mestia in 2011 and it was a great adventure. Unfortunately we were not able to buy tickets for the Tbilisi-Mestia flights. Always sold out or problems with the booking program.

I searched the internet (also Russian pages) for charts but didn´t find some. Seems to be the same problem like in Khorog/Tadjikistan - spectacular landscape - spectacular approach - no scenery - no charts available.

great that you explored Svaneti, too. And you didn't hesitate to take a photo of a GAF Mi-8... as I did.

 

Meanwhile I tried to create at least an AFCAD file, but I gave up due to the uneven ground (I use a Caucasus mesh file from avsim.su, which forms the surrounding mountains very acurately, excepting Mt. Shkhara).

 

Same problems with the flights for me, too. When I showed interest in a flight Tbilisi-Mestia, I was said that the tickets are often sold out, or, if you have booked tickets, they are sold to someone other. So I came here with a rented 4x4 car, it was a great experience, too.

 

Khorog: That would be great to have a scenery. I found some entries in a russian forum about a Khorog scenery project, but it seems that there is no further progress. I'm not even sure if it is for MSFS or X-Plane:

There are some AFCAD files, and there is even a basic scenery of Khorog within the "All Tajikistan" scenery of Andrej Anta, available at avsim.su, too, but is has a completely incorrect airport layout:

The Georgian airport building was on the architecture blog Archdaily a while back.

I assume the most practical way to a quick decent scenery for both airports is using tools like Maps2bgl and Afcad. But: the best orthophotos for Mestia are available at yandex.ru. This needs more efforts as this is not supported by Maps2bgl I think.

Currently I'm working on a basic afcad file to have an idea of the airport at least. Meanwhile I took the coordinates from www.mygeorgia.ge (basing on the outdated google orthophotos), as these in the link above seem to be incorrect.

 

Building an airport with 3D buildings will be a task for people with more skills than I have.

Better than nothing.
