Fixed my water!--with screenshots

Featured Replies

One of the major gripes i have (or had) with FSX was the way the water looked at night. For me it was just TOO bright and just didnt have the feeling you were headed out over a dark body of water. I was googling around on the net looking into that ENB stuff thats being talked about on another thread, and i ran into this.

http://www.strikings....com/fswc.shtml FS Water Configurator.

The little Youtube video on that site convinced me to try it and after download and installing it and selecting a setting, i fired up FSX and lifted off from my adopted FSX home field KCLM- Port Angeles, WA at 8pm simtime. I really didnt know what to expect but my jaw dropped when i saw this.

The water was almost pitch black! Just the way it should be IMO. No more glowing night time water. And it makes those shoreline runway approaches a LOT more realistic. The only thing that is still there are those "star reflections" which I bet are hard coded into FSX somehow and we are just going to have to live with it

Here are a few more screenshots. Bear in mind I am running FSX with DX10 enabled, Bloom is on, AS2012 is running the weather with REX textures installed. the water textures at set at x2 Low.

The best part about this software is that it is FREEWARE!

Been using it for a long time under dx9.

I thought it was incompatible with dx10?

Does FSWC work with the DX10 preview mode?

FSWC v3.15 does not work with the Direct X 10 preview mode as it uses completely different shader files. However, FSWC+ will

be fully DX10 compatible and will even have extended features for DX10 users.

Its working for me under dx10..and im very happy with the results. i didnt know this software existed until today, but it is going to be one of those must haves for me now. Im using the "John's favorite settings" in FSWC.

I cannot understand how FSWC can work in dx10,as it does not modify the DX10 water shaders.

I just checked, and the only mods are to the dx9 shaders.

Good find Jason!

Pretty sure the well-known freeware utility FSWC was already 'found' :)

But yes, it's a cool piece of software.

There is the Graphics section of my fsx cfg, and DX10 is enabled. Maybe there is something in steves DX10 shader fix that allows FSWC to work with it? Im not complaining though, as FSX looks just right now at night..everything is dark and makes me rely on the instruments a LOT more

Glad that it is working for you Jason.

I must be missing something, as the application does not modify the water shaders for DX10.
