The one thing I hate about XP10

Featured Replies

The install kept giving me errors, it drove me nuts. The install on the CD was actually better than the download on their site. I had 2 errors with the cd install but had over 20 errors with the dl version. I kept pressing "continue" instead of "cancel" and it went ok. I love the sim but the install drove me insane.

Well FlashIsis, for me it's smooth as silk ?

I use the installer/updater downloaded from Laminar's site and not the one on DVD 1. I also allways check to participate in betas so that it allways notifies me about newer versions and downloads / installs it...

I am really enjoying this GREAT sim. Just now beginning to walk my first steps accross the myriad of chances Plane-Maker gives us.

Also, I am so well with the default aircraft, and the LES dc-3, the Sundowner and the Seneca that I have food for my ideas until Christmas :-)

X-Plane10 has a hidden "Universe" behind the scenes...

i agree jcomm, tonight i tried to go fly in fsx and p3d and it felt so cartoony compared to xp10. i spent 5 mins in those sims and then decided to delete them XP10 looks so much better and the payware planes are simply stunning.

ok i just found out that xp10 didn't like my shiny new BluRay Drive so i bought an external DVD drive and the install went great. Strange problem

I installed XP10 for the first time the other night (all 8 DVD's) and it went very smoothly.

Aside from getting access to beta releases is there any other advantage of doing it this way? So far I haven't found any problems after installing it using DVD 1.

The experience so far has been great flying some of the default planes as well as a nice freeware PA28 that I picked up. One thing I noticed though is that some cities don't look too good particularly Brisbane in Australia where I live. After taking off and flying around it looks a bit like a small scattering of buildings rather than a large city, a bit like what it may have looked like over 100 years ago! The roads and highways all seem fairly accurate though. I also find it difficult to navigate around taxiways at empty airports without having any terminal buildings or ground objects for visual reference. I might have to find some airport scenery to download.

Trees on the runways quite annoying. Oh Hey Flyboy, there's a pretty good YSSY freeware airport at X-Pilot, also I dunno if you like U.S. Flying but....Wilmington International Airport KILM awesome airport at x-aviation $29.99 USD probably about $32 dollars for you. One other thing, if you buy the 777 Worldliner here on avsim you get free KLAX and KLGA (Thanks AVSIM for free airports you guys are awesome  ) Forgot, go checkout the Aerosoft aiports they provided in X-Plane 10 over in Europe like EGLL, there's about 10-15 airports they provided.

The lights are dimming on FSX and only getting brighter for XPX.

I believe this will probably get addressed when X-Plane10 turns 64 bit. I've read the new version may do a revamp to the landclass and "autogen". JMeanwhile you can always try OSM2XP. I've been using OSM scenery for Portugal and other parts of the world I like to "fly", and although the emblematic building of downtown Lisboa, and even the bridges, fall short from being any good comparison with their real counterparts (something that FSX and P3D do very well, even using default scenery only) the fact is that the overall sensation of flying over a town, specially at night, and particularly the sensation os approaching an airport located nearby / inside a town is a LOT closer to real in X-Plane10 than in FSX / P3D, and even better if you're able to activate HDR :-)

I'll check it out. I also saw a YBBN airport on x-plane.org that looked good. I've done a little but of US flying but not as much as AU, EU or Asia, I have a tendency to 'roam' around the world with my flying but whenever I get a new aircraft I like to fly around in my local region while learning it. The 777 also comes with those 2 airports when you buy it from x-plane.org so I think it's a standard bundle that they sell which sounds pretty cool, might make me fly more in US :)

Agreed! I was just flying around my local area again in the B58 and it definitely feels a lot more real than in FSX, especially at night. I'm not a real pilot (I hope to become one) but I have done a few hours in an ultra-light in my local area and I have to say that XP10 feels very similar to how that felt. The approaches seem to be a lot more challenging as well, even on a clear day.
