Need Advice for MCP

Featured Replies

I am looking for an MCP for use with various airplanes in FSX. I usually fly the PMDG MD11, QW757, PMDG 737NGX, and a few others on occasions. What I am trying to get at is that I use various payware planes. During my research I have come across a few possibilities and wanted to get feedback from the AvSim community since it is so large. Currently I am looking at the Saitek Multipanel or the VRInsight MCP Combo. The VRI MCP Combo II is also a possibility; however, it appears to be more specialized. I have read positive and negative things about both of those as well as others. I should also mention that my understanding of programming for things such as LINDA next to nill so I would prefer something that comes with good software.

My question is; if you wanted to add an panel with MCP ability which would you pick?

As a matter-of-fact I called and spoke with John in tech support. My concern after speaking with him was that the panel would not work for planes other than the 737NGX unless I could get LINDA profiles or learn how to make LINDA profiles myself. What items do you have from them if you don't mind me asking. I am also considering a throttle quadrant to replace this crazy one from Saitek.

Hello

Never used Linda myself and as far as I know Linda does not support Goflight units.

I do all of my programming using either the Goflight software which works fine for most addons utilising the default FSX autopilot code or with Fsuipc mouse macros and button programming.

The Feelthere aircraft support the MCP natively, the i-fly 737 and LVL-D 767 are supported in the goflight software.

The NGX works perfectly with Stephen Munns Goflight MCP driver.

Any external hardware like this requires some setting up by various methods to get it working with 3rd party addons, Most high end addons go outside of the FSX SDK to realise their functions so very little works out of the box.

I follow what you are saying, mad dog. Thank you for taking the time to go this over with me. So, if you do not mind my asking which MCP do you have? I was looking at the older one, the GF MCP Advanced Auto. It seems better suited for the variety of planes I fly. Do you happen to have a TQ too? I am looking at thier GF-TQ6 which would be great as I will make a few flights for my VA using something with two engines, jump over and make a few tri-jet flights, and wrap up with a couple of flights with the Queen.

Hello Edward,

I have the MCP pro that is in the link I posted and also the older GF MCP Advanced Auto which as you pointed out is better suited to a larger range of aircraft, The MCP Pro is best suited to Boeing's.

Both nice units although only a few addons work out of the box, the QW 757 is one that I never got fully working but the newer 146 was much easier to get working.

One more question if you do not mind, just to make sure I understand fully; you do the programming through the included software and FS shortcuts?

How about the displays on the MCP such as ALT, IAS, and so on; do those display what is showing up on the VC MCP or is it a hit or miss thing? You know, some aircraft it displays correctly and some aircraft it does not.

Hello

I use various combinations depending on the addon I am trying to configure the MCP's for.

If the Goflight software will not work directly then I will use Fsuipc mouse macros or attempt to find out what L_Vars the panel is using and then use Lua scripts.

If the addon has a keymapping utility or ini file then it is simple enough to use Fsuipc button programming.

The goflight displays are the hardest part and generally will need programming using Lua scripts.

The list of Good 3rd party aircraft that work out of the box can be counted on one hand, low end payware and default/freeware stuff usually works without issue as these mostly use the default AP coding.

The VRInsight MCP / Linda combination may be easier to deal with but I have not had the chance to try one
