FSX Autopilot- how to decouple ALT and HDG/ROL functions?

Featured Replies

I've seen this before but now forgotten, and couldn't find this after searching here. On some models of aircraft in FSX, the Roll mode is activated when the AP is engaged, and remains so until the AP is turned off. I recall there is a setting available for the "Autopilot" section of the aircraft.cfg file that will enable the roll mode to be used manually in flight while the ALT mode is being commanded from the AP. Does anyone know what this string is that needs to be inserted into the .cfg file to achieve this?

Thanks, Bruce.

Here ya go:

In the autopilot section of the aircraft.cfg, add this line:

use_no_default_bank=1

Pressing HDG HOLD button, on my joystick, twice will disable it.

Or you can press CTRL V to disable the wing leveler when you need to turn and press it again to enable.

Hi Vic and Dave,

Thanks for additional comments. What I am trying to do (and maybe this question belongs to the relevant forum) is to disable the ROL and/or HDG modes in the Baron B/E55 aircraft by Milviz. What I would like to do is to find a setting where the lateral navigation is totally disengaged, while the vertical navigation is still controlled by the AP- and then to be able to select/deselect ROL and/or HDG (lateral nav) on the AP.

I tried the edits to the aircraft.cfg (autopilot section), and the CTRL-V and HDG on/off repeated button pushes, but I can’t seem to get the AP to go to any other lateral nav state other than ROL or HDG, (or NAV/APP if applicable).

Thanks, Bruce.

Sounds like the Baron's autopilot ignores the Aircraft.cfg entries--it's probably internally programmed to engage roll control by default, probably in an effort to duplicate the way the real autopilot works. Sorry that there doesn't seem to be a workaround.

I don't know of any other AP modes, other than the ones you noted, except CRTL+V to turn off WL.
