October 6, 201213 yr I'd like to install REX and some other global add-ons both in FSX and Prepar3d, I have the migration tool. Do I need to run the installers twice? For FSX first then for Prepar3d? Also, what if I have REX installed already and set up for FSX. Can I run it for Prepar3D? Or should I reinstall REX? Thanks, Dirk.
October 6, 201213 yr That is really hard. For instance in REX, you have to switch in which folder textures are installed, only one setup is needed. That is the reason why I have two operating systems installed.
October 6, 201213 yr Commercial Member I am finding this to be a case-by-case basis. Though it is nice when an single add-on install can work for both (like Orbx, FSDT), I am leaving addional space for P3D just in case. Nice find for many freebie scenery addons, I can just point to my FSX Addon Scenery folder and run it from there. October 6, 201213 yr I am finding this to be a case-by-case basis. Of course, I ment to say that. For example, it is major pain with Aerosoft sceneries, since you can't run the installer twice, even if you load the migrator.
October 6, 201213 yr Author Of course, I ment to say that. For example, it is major pain with Aerosoft sceneries, since you can't run the installer twice, even if you load the migrator. Do you mean to say you can not install Aerosoft sceneries in P3D after you ran the installer for FSX? Does copy folders work? Thanks, Sabre.
October 6, 201213 yr Correct. Installer once ran, you need to find the proper Installer in the program files and delete it before you can run it again. Or uninstall and rename the FSX folder (so it won't delete it from FSX). Copy folders yes. But sometimes installers install files elsewhere, which would mean you dont get those files and potentially missing parts of the scenery or incorrect displays.
October 6, 201213 yr Author I'll have to make a full switch to P3D then and very soon so. Thanks, Dirk.
October 6, 201213 yr Commercial Member What I have done with my Aerosoft USCitiesX is first install in FSX then activate, then install into P3D. Yes, duplicate installs. Found I could not "activate" after install if I went straight to P3D with Migrator Tool. Interestingly, after I would install it seemed like the entire addon was insstalled even before activation or when it said not activated. Not sure what it does or does not do if not activated? In case with Amsterdam X when you run the installer second time it gives you only 2 options: remove or repair. If you chose 'repair' it goes straight into reinstall without asking about the path. October 7, 201213 yr Exactly. That is what most as sceneries do, including corfux which I was testing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
October 7, 201213 yr Commercial Member If I come across this, I just copy over the installed FSX version into my P3D's Addon Scenery folder. What Word Not Allowed said, I can only confirm from my experience. There are some tricks with the dummy folders, but you can't guarantee 100% anyway. Besides, too much hustle all together. Dirk.
