Airac Cycles

Featured Replies

As I was notified by Navigraph that my credits were due to expire, I downloaded the latest Airac Cycles. However, as I still had 10 credits left, I decided to download the nDAC3072 so that I could download charts, etc. However, upon trying to run the .exe, it just crashes with an msiexe.exe error caused by a faulting module mscoree.dll. Any ideas what could throw this up?

Rick Almeida

That's part of dotnet. Looks like you're missing a version of Microsoft.net. I believe Navigraph used dotnet 2 when they developed their programs. It should have been included with the exe but you might find it on their website too.

Best regards,

Jim

Hi Jim

Thanks a bundle for that. Will look into that tip but I have a feeling that my Microsoft.net is up-to-date because I think I needed it for the PMDG NGX 737, and some other FSX-related and non-FSX software.

Regards too.

Pity Navigraph's support is non-existent except in the so-called Support Forum where as expected, there is no help forthcoming. Last time I will bother buying any more credits from them.

Rick Almeida

Use this verification tool to check and make sure all of your dotnet versions are up-to-date - http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/10/13/8999004.aspx.

Hi Jim

Ran the Verification Tool. Found .Net Framework 2.0 SP2 verified successfully.

Rick Almeida

Okay Rick. So that wasn't the issue but good to know anyway. From my limited search, people have fixed msiexec errors by disabling their startup programs as one of them is interfering with the process. Go to the Run command and type in msconfig. When open, click on the Services tab and click on the box to hide all microsoft services. Disable the rest. Then go to the Startup tab and disable those and click apply (none of these startups are really needed and were put there so their product would startup everytime you startup Windows. You can reenable them if you want). Restart Windows. See if you can now perform the functions with Navigraph.

If that doesn't work, I would redownload their program to the latest (think it was recently updated) and see if that fixes the problem. Some of these software companies use licensing services with their products and, in the Services tab I showed you how to get to above, nalpeiron and flexnet licensing services should not be disabled.

Saw that you posted this in the navigraph forum and they appear to be very considerate to your issue. That's nice!

Best regards,

Jim

Hi Jim

Thank you for your detailed response. However, not being big-headed or anything of that sort, and appreciating your help very much, I was long ago into configuring start-ups through msconfig, way back in Win98 so am quite au fait with what it does,as well as managing Services thanks to blackviper as well as sysinternals' procexp.

That verification check tool also verified .Net Framework version 3.5 but I ran into a half-concluded upgrade when trying to install v4.5. However, I successfully managed to install that nDAC interface and the very kind Support Forum Admin, Stephen, re-credited my expired credits and I was able to download some airport charts. Superlative Support there, just like here, it's just that it took time to manifest by which time I'd lost my credits.

Only snag is, I have no darm idea to integrate the airport charts within FSX. FMCs show the latest Airac Cycle, but how do I get to use those downloaded and paid for charts?

Kind regards

Rick Almeida

Glad you got it working and were able to get those charts. Charts are usually in pdf or doc format and you just view them and interpret the charts for the airport you are arriving at. It provides more information than what the FMC tells you. I think there are some guides to interpreting the charts for FSX. Maybe if you Google departure charts guide for fsx and or arrival charts guide for fsx or just plain airport charts guide for fsx. Navigraph may have free guides on that website.

In regards to your expertise in using msconfig and startups and stuff like that, I usually inform everyone on the proper procedures as I have no idea whatsoever as to their computer knowledge. I know I would be put back a little too if someone came on here and told me how to do something with Windows 7. I used the Black Viper website too regarding services. It's possible then you might have stopped one of the needed services. I was told to never ever disable Microsoft.net services and I looked the other day and saw that I had somehow disabled them.

I had issues too with getting the installation of dotnet 4.5. Version 4 was automatically installed with Windows 7 and Windows 7 is the first OS that automatically installed the dotnets with their operating system. Vista and earlier OS's did not have this done automatically and you had to rely on the installation software from the developer that he would install the proper version to run his product. I wouldn't be too concerned with 4.5 as no FSX addon developer has used it yet. I would just let Windows Update do its thingy.

Thanks Rick!

Best regards,

Jim

Hi Jim

Many thanks for being so understanding as I did not want to give you the impression seeing how very helpful you have been with this issue to the point of getting me up and running of rebuking you.

Glad to note that you too are familiar with blackviper, and that it was not just me being a dodo having an issue with v4.5.

Keep up the sterling work you do. Whatever happened to your guys re:Ryder Cup?

Regards

Rick

Thanks for the kind comments. I try... Don't want to get off topic but quickly, that was truly a shocker. Biggest comeback ever in the history of the Cup. If Tiger and Jim Stricker had won just ONE match, it would have been a different story.

Best regards,

Jim
