July 9, 200421 yr Hi all. After six months of superb, flawless, non-ctd flight simming, I suddenly ended upp on the desktop today. I /Johan Windh
July 9, 200421 yr Hi johan. Most non-seasonal CTDs are caused by AFCAD2 files. It seems there is a problem with duplicate files, and with odd or duplicated start positions in non-duplicated files.Unfortunately, it is very difficult to find the bad BGL, as the crash can happen many kilometers from the site of the AFCAD2 BGL.Occasionally, a texture of the wrong type in a scenery package will also cause a crash. This isn't the fault of Microsoft, nor is there likely to ever be a utility that will end all the problems bad addons cause.Good luck finding the bad file.Dick
July 9, 200421 yr "I wish that one day, someone would come up with the final Fix, to put an end to the ALL the CTD
July 9, 200421 yr Hi John,How can you turn off a textured GPS display? In the panel.cfg? Regards, Jeroen The Netherlands
July 9, 200421 yr One of the buttons--one of the bottom ones I recall, cycles through various display modes in the GPS. You just click it until the texture is no longer displayed... I believe that information is retained in the FS9.cfg or saved in the Flight file, since mine now defaults to the vector vs. textured display.-John
July 9, 200421 yr When I had this happening it was indeed a faulty AfCad file, in fact more than one was bad. Both were from the same add on scenery I had recently installed. I found that I only got the CTD when I had the GPS window open. After I fixed the bad AfCad files with the Afcad program error check function all has been well since then. The only way I know to locate bad AfCad files is to remove all add on AfCad files and test, then reinstate a few at a time and test again. By trial and error you will find any bad ones.

July 10, 200421 yr In the AfCad program open the file, then go to Tools, then Fault Finder. It's not a program error finder, it checks any AfCad file that is loaded in the program. It won't fix any problems automatically but as far as I know it will tell you everything that is wrong. Designers should use this function more often as it should help to eliminate faulty AfCad files before they are released. I did not need to check the original files in the main scenery folder, however one add on scenery I had installed was by default during installation put in a sub folder in the main scenery folder. This happened to be the scenery I had trouble with so that is where I had to locate the faulty added AfCad files. More usually they would be in the addon scenery folder or a sub folder within it. It is best to try and identify which scenery add on is causing a problem before looking for suspected faulty AfCad files or you will spend far too long checking them all!
July 11, 200421 yr Hi all.AFCAD2's fault finder can miss some crash-causing problems, but it's a good place to start. Clues are also oddly placed start locations and duplicate start locations. It's almost better to rename your FS9 folder ( FS9OLD ), then reinstall a fresh copy. Transfer a bit at a time, maybe keep a log of the transfers, until the problem resurfaces... then you've narrowed down the source of the problem.DIck
